Subject: I need a cadillac for Poser...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 6:02 AM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 11:57 PM

I have seen Sparkyworld's Pink Cadillac in free stuff, but it's for Vue only and I really would prefer it for Poser. I do have Vue4, but I'm not really good at it, so.. Does anyone know of a similar cadillac in a format that Poser can read? It must be suited for commercial renders btw. Free is always good, but the main thing right now is to get me a car L HELP? I've already checked 3DCafe and PlanIt3D with no luck...

ernyoka1 - if you can find someone with Vue 5 or Infinite - feel free to convert it. Or if you want something nice and grungy try this... http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=44348

Hmmm, you're either doing a render of Elvis, or a May Kay promo :)

dadt ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 9:33 AM

Tried the Caddy in Vue but its locked and can't be exported.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 11:13 AM

locked? how do you lock something from conversion?

That is exactely the problem. The Vue caddy is somehow locked. I didn't know it was possible either. And Blender? I installed it, and never have I felt so totally lost looking at a 3D program. Even Shade made more sense to me... in japanese... But.. MrSparky.. Are you saying it's "locked" because it's in Vue5 format? That explains why I can't get it to work with Vue4 of course.

"locked? how do you lock something from conversion? " The newest versions of Vue have a 'security feature' that stops some material from being exported. The Vue forums here can explain it better than I can. Why it should do this on that caddy I don't know - because that was imported into Vue 4 not any of the later versions.

X-Post with you there ernyoka1. :) "I didn't know it was possible either" yep :( The link above explains the locking process, and how unpopular it is. "Are you saying it's "locked" because it's in Vue5 format?" No. The model I've offered is in Vue 4 VOB format. Vue 5/infinite wasn't available when this freebie was released. I've never updated it either.

Does it have to be a Caddy and not a Thunderbird or similar convertible?

dadt ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 1:38 PM

I tried the model in Vue 5 Infinite which reported it as locked.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 3:04 PM

It's for a commercial render so yes, it had to be something like this caddy. It's odd, really, that no one else seems to have made a car like this in any 3D version...

Sparkyworld's Cadillac is NOT a Cadillac, it is a Chevrolet Bel Air (1957 model I think). A fully posable CR2 exists/existed as a freebie as shown above but where did I find it ? I thought it had something to do with that Dudley (whose cars are now for sale at DAZ) ... Give me some time ...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 3:34 PM

Ooh nice! Caddy or chevvy.. what do I know? LOL I had this thing pointed out to me with a "Like this one, please" ;o) Thanks for all your detective work so far, guys :o)

well that..bites..;) As if everyone uses only a single program to do all their work..right?..;) locking a file from conversion..sheesh..now we know why upgrades take so long..;)
Blender has uses; I mainly use it as a tool (render or animate with it? don't have the patience). You can import the file, then export as another format. It does about 10 or so formats in and out (you can import .3ds, but not export..'scratches head, shrugs'..;) using File Import, and File Export. That's all you'd need to do..if someone hadn't 'locked conversion'..:| Gad, the next thing you know you'll have $99 basketball models out there and...;)

Try this link (it's a bit slow) : http://web.archive.org/web/20020618033650/http://205.122.23.229/Dudley/57Chevy.html Even Google didn't help, found it in a DAZ thread ...

If it's for a commercial render, and the person is willing to spend the money, you can probably find a cadillac in that style at Turbosquid. I did a search there and came up with multiple pages for "cadillac"

And there is even the Chevrolet Bel Air for a mere $ 134 ...

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 8:07 PM

LOL, I didn't say it was cheap, hehe. But it comes down to how much do they want a pink cadillac in that particular style.

dadt - that link is a 404 :'( jgodeau - great link, but Wayback Machine doesn't save the actual downloadable file, so it didn't really help me get hold of the car. Does anyone have Dudley's car and can anyone please check the readme then to see what it ways about redistribution? Please?

Thanks Acadia! But is it the flu that is confusing me or is that Caddie/Chevvy not there any more? Dudley makes great cars but I need that specific model not just any car. At least not at preset :o/

The link works for me and I downloaded the model. It is a 3DS mesh but has no textures and is not even grouped for textures.

dadt ( ) posted Thu, 23 March 2006 at 8:50 AM

I've found the Chevy in my old stuff and the readme says as follows License agreement: You are free to use this model and any included files in any form of images and renders for commercial or personal use. You are free to distribute this file to whomever you wish free of charge. No item within this file is to be sold in whole or in part in any way. If distributing or posting to any site other than the original site the original contents of this file must remain complete, including this readme. If you IM me your EM adress I'll send you the files.

Acadia ( ) posted Thu, 23 March 2006 at 8:58 AM

Now that is a complete readme!!! I wish all readme's were as specific. It would save loads of hassels.
