Subject: Another thread about Manga Studio vs. Comic Creator

Casette ( ) posted Fri, 24 March 2006 at 4:20 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 11:04 PM

Hi folks Seriously thinking on purchasing a software for comics. I've seen both Comic Creator and Manga Studio (Debut version - the EX version is freakly expensive). Really I want a good software, not a software full of options which I'll never use. So I tell you: I draw comics. Full color. I render the panels in Poser and I save as psd file to retouching in Photoshop. I NEED: a (n easy) software to compose the panels, add text ballons, maybe some fx, and save it in printable resolutions (300 dpi). What would be the best choice?

Just in case you're interested and don't already know... There's a freeware called "Comic Forge" which you can read the many details, view screenshots, etc over here... http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=33322 You might not have to purchase either program if this does what you want. ;)

Comic Forge? Well that's the first time I've heard a name attached to it. How soon til it goes to beta testing? I've volunteered to beta test but haven't heard much else beyond that. David

appears to me what your looking for is comic book creator. Manga studio seems to have alot of image manipulation tools to get that "ink" look. Comic Forge there is very limited info on but what i see it looks like the idea is to have your characters and background built seperate and assemble them in the program. I dont see any page layouts in their descriptions so im not sure if it will do it or not. Comic Book Creator doens't have image manipulation, it just puts your images into page layouts and lets you add text baloons, which sounds like what your looking for. download the demo and give it a try

Really I don't need image manipulation. I control the process into Photoshop. But I need an easier way than the part of the process I still do in PS: to import my psd pics, to resize or cut them, to draw text ballons in different layers, to add texts, sounds, signature and to export to printable formats

Tyger, I'll try the demo. Thanks :) And waiting for the beta ;)

Comic forge is aimed more at those who don't already own or can't afford applications such as Photoshop or Illustrator. It has very few features or tools that have to do with image manipulation.

Since you have PhotoShop - I'd suggest going for Adobe Illustrator or Front Page. I used PhotoShop and Illustrator to do my story in the Feb Rotica eMag... I know you have a copy of the emagazine. ;)

Why do you need a comic creator at all if you're using photoshop? Just make the balloons and text in that. Everything can be done in photoshop.

But it's a lot of bored work :P
