Subject: Amapi forum could be Hexagon/Amapi forum?

Since hardly anyone uses the Amapi forum, maybe that could become the Hexagon/Amapi forum? Seems like there will be a lot more discussion of Hexagon in the near future. Any comments?

Putting these two programs together seems like a great idea to me too. Both are modeling programs designed to support Carrara, and integrate nicely with it. I am pouring myself into Hexagon right now and absolutely love it, and plan on getting a handle on Amapi Designer 7 soon. The creation of unimesh objects is tedious and difficult in Carrara, but much easier in the two modeling programs.

If you are learning Hexagon, then Amapi Designer is not necessary. Hex replaced AD7.

I am waiting for Amapi Designer to arrive (EBay purchase). Is Designer 7 like version 6.1 (free download from Eovia) or like Hexagon? I am particularly interested in character design and animation.

Just checked out the Amapi vids at Eovia. Can see the similarities now between the two programs. All the more reason to combine them I guess.

Amapi 7 is great for making hardened objects that are accurate/precise. Hexagon is great for making softened objects that are more organic/subjective.

I would say that Amapi Pro 7.5 IS better for accurate/precise hard surface modeling. I don't see that Amapi Designer 7 is better than Hexagon for that. Once I got Hex, I didn't use AD7 anymore. For character design, Hexagon 2 coming out will be much better than Amapi D7. I would send back Amapi and place my order for Hex2.

Holding the shift key to snap your facet tool (or any drawing tool) to existing points works a lot better in Amapi 7 (any version) than in Hexagon. Maybe it has been fixed in Hexagon 2? That would help a lot in making Hexagon as precise a modeler as Amapi 7 is. Hexagon also needs a measurement tool like Amapi 7 has. Amapi 7 has more accurate rotation of objects. Just basic tools that Hexagon has lacked for precise modeling.

Thanks for the clarification. Think I'll keep the Amapi Designer, it was cheap "new old stock" on EBay, and learn it as well. I am finding modeling non-organic in Hex more dificult than characters, which Hex seems ideal for.

Make sure you download the 7.16 update for Amapi Designer 7 from Eovia, if you bought the boxed version.

When Amapi D7 came with Carrara, I soon decided it had not been designed for use by humans! Great joy when Hexagon was given birth. Therefore the site should be Hexagon/Amapi.

Well, I learned to model with Amapi 3D (v6). I thought Amapi D7 was a great improvement and really liked it and modeled lots of stuff with it. After using Hexagon, I tried to open AD7 one day, and felt like half of my favorite tools were missing. It's hard to go back.
