Subject: What's the one thing that will complete your Runtime?

replicand ( ) posted Sat, 01 April 2006 at 10:59 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:36 AM

I'm speaking with a really quiet voice because I don't want to cause a ruckus or anything. I've been practicing my modeling skills (which look like kindergarten drawings), but...I'm stuck. What should I model? Nothing too advanced like animals or anything. Noone's Runtime is ever too big, but what's the one thing missing from yours that will allow you to take over the universe?

whoa! That's an eensy bit out of my league; it looks like it COULD be pulled off with simple geometry and a VERY talented texture / Photoshop artist, of which I am neither. Which character would you use this crown for?

Acadia ( ) posted Sat, 01 April 2006 at 11:10 PM

Yeah, I know it's hard. Props can usually be adjusted to fit any figure, but I'm hoping if ever this crown is made, that it's for V3.

everyone is always complaining about the lack of short hair for males. you could start with simple male hair props. one can never have enough robots, especially if they're unique. most robots in poser formats are from fiction (tv show, movie, etc.). a few people have asked for modern furniture and room settings. in total those could be hard, but a single piece of furniture or light fixture or something might not be too bad. and don't forget the office as well as home. leaves or petals (modeled and curved, not just planes) of different types and species. i'd really like these. they have the potential to be used in various ways. cooking utensils and domestic appliances. historically accurate crowns and jewelry. lace ruffs, ribbons, and other decorative clothing parts with morphing diameters and trailing bits. that's all i can come up with off the top of my head. my personal request would be on the leaves and petals and the clothing decorations. don't forget that a lot of detail can be added with displacement maps - you don't have to model every little crevice.

modus0 ( ) posted Sun, 02 April 2006 at 7:04 AM

Male hair (there's still a deficiency of quality male hair) Non-high heel/pump shoes for the women (I think there are a couple of sneakers for V3 and SP, and maybe some non-heel sandals, but there can stand to be more) More clothes for the Poser men More non-sexy clothes for the women That's just the first four things I can think of that we need more of that aren't super complex.

I think Anthony Appleyard has a bunch of hospital-related stuff.

I want a badger, but too bad. And a wolverine, but in my dreams. I bought the Meerkat last week to console myself.

One thing I think is very useful: trivial stuff that's low-poly. I recently picked up a free Doorag in Happy Valley, and the dang thing is 6 megs. Now, I dunno what wonderful morphs it has, but 6 megs for a hankie is never gonna get in my libraries, free or not. Sometimes detailing is important. For example, I have a 2 meg tambourine that has brass studs. I could use morphable zills (belly dance cymbals), and if they hit 2 megs, I'd be fine with that.

I use the tambourine in extreme closeups. But for a gypsy camp scene, I'd make zills out off crushed primitives, and I might make the tambourine the same way. When you need a flashlight in a complex scene, it shouldn't cost you 2-5 megs.

More high quality guitar models! Stuff up to the standard of Mask-Da's guitars. Nobody has yet made a good quality acoustic guitar for Poser yet. There are some acoustic models out there but they're not particularly great or realistic.

Never ask a guitarist how many guitars he needs. It's always "just one more..." and 3D guitarists are just the same. (I have 12 that are playable, 2 awaiting restoration/firewood, parts to make about 3 more, not to mention 3 mandolins, a bouzouki and a couple of things I don't know the names of.)

hmmm - how about a towel wrap for the male models, a gift box with a bow, or a shovel for gardening? Some things I could use. Thanks for asking. Have fun. Tim

pigfish9 ( ) posted Sun, 02 April 2006 at 11:54 AM

I always appreciate items that make a scene more like real life such as food items (I don't think I've seen fried chicken anywhere), bric-a-brac that clutters furniture tops (lamps, vases, books, jewelry boxes, piles of mail, etc.), and stuff like that. You can have a really lovely bathroom with great tiles and stuff but it looks much more realistic as a scene if you have towels, toilet paper, soap, etc. so that it looks lived in.

Seattletim... all those things have been made :o) The towelwrap for men not as a freebie though - but PoserWorld has one :o) I think SAMS3D has the gardening things, or it may be RDNA, I know I have the cutes little planter showel somewhere in my Runtime. Gifts with bows usually pop up around christmas, I know I have quite a collection of them by now :o) Mickmca: I have some finger cymbals in my freestuff, they're not morphable but they ARE smartpropped to V3's hand :o) And I've actually been trying to make boxing gloves, but it has proven to be more difficult than I though. On the plus side I have an almost finished boxing bag (sandbag)

To complete my runtimes? An application in which I could enter my preferences and that then automatically organised my runtime(s) for me. Because I now want it all the way I want it, I have to restart from the zips and the exe's. It took me one evening (about four hours) to unzip purchases from RDNA, Poserpros, Renderosity and some smaller folders. Some 450 items in all. It then took me two full evenings to execute some 150 Daz items. One third of the number of items and the double amount of time. Now everything is perfect in its own folder, and backed up twice: once on an external hdd, once on DVD's. Now comes the real organisation in directories (architecture, creatures,...) ,then renaming and the elimination of all I don't like (loads of make up maps, same-texture-but-other-colour,weblinks,...) and then finally the creation of runtimes, organising of reference-images and info-containing readme's (about one out of fifty)... An app that could do this for me would be great. Because it is boring.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 02 April 2006 at 5:47 PM

HI Turtle , yes those boxing gloves would be perfect, but I want to make a 3d comic that I may one day decide to sell, and I need the glove for a few scenes in the comic, but the EULA says "not for commercial". Too bad hey. Love esther

I hear ya about the runtime. I once organized everything... and then kept installing and.. installing and now... everything is a mess again. :/

pleonastic ( ) posted Sun, 02 April 2006 at 7:50 PM

i hear you too, gongyla. i just went through that. the one thing i can say for it, is that it's helped me familiarize myself intimately with all the items. silke, the main trick after going through a serious reorganization is to never directly install into that again, but to install into a dummy runtime first, reorganizing that according to your actual setup, and moving the files manually.

replicand ( ) posted Sun, 02 April 2006 at 9:15 PM

Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses. I want to reiterate that my skills are meager (at best), but I'm really looking to get my feet wet. I like the aderondack (sp) chairs, and they will work well for my (other) current project. Being a guitarist myself, I agree that one could never have enough guitars, and I agree that MaskDa's are top notch. A good acoustic shouldn't be too difficult. Food might be difficult to pull off (but definitely needed) as is the interior of a supermarket, which could be an ambitious texturing project - let us not mention how difficult it would be to create the produce section. Male hair, clothing and non sexy female clothing / shoes are all great ideas, in addition to the everyday items found lying about. All great ideas. I will let you know when they become available.

B A N D O N E O N!

Predominant instrument in most tango music.  Looks (somewhat) like an accordion!

Link  - just for starters!  Of course, I would buy this!  Whatever it cost would likely only scratch the surface of the money I've spent on tango music and other related expenses - (private lessons, workshops, plane tickets, hotel expenses, not to mention the gross national products of some small countries on my wife's tango wardrobe, LOL!)!

Enterprising modelers/merchants, take note!
