Subject: Little yellow stars

The little yellow stars on this forum are not turning into little grey stars when I visit a post. Makes it hard to know where I've been. Is this not working yet?

pleonastic ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 2:45 AM

it only seems to work upon refreshing right now.

Refresh doesn't do it, I can't make the stars grey either. Not in individual threads at leas, and I kinda think that was the idea? So it's indeed hard to keep track of which threads you've read and which you haven't... But I guess they're still working on ironing out the crinkles :)

Yeah, it's the same for me. I am just practicing patience for the next few days. I'm sure this was a tough upgrade, since the difference between testing and production phases is a few thousand users. Given how they improved the Marketplace over the course of the first few weeks, I am fully confident in 'Rosity to iron out any issues over the next few days. Interestingly though, there is a syntax error showing up for the page. Wonder if that's the problem area?

Really? I don't see any syntax error message. Which browser are you using? (me, I'm using Firefox) But I agree, I'm fully confident that Rosity will iron out the wrinkles, and I thought they did a good job on the Marketplace when that was converted. I like the new setup 😄

ernyoka, I am using IE. Strangely though, I don't get the error consistently, so I guess it isn't the root of the issue. Ah well...:m_skull:

If you use Mark All Read then the colour change should work. Stacey advised that she's working on having this automatically refresh once you've been into a thread. We're all screaming for post bumping, too.

Thanks for the update Karen! I knew these "problems" would be worked on, and ironed out. :thumbupboth:

post bumping is where the thread with the latest post goes to the top of the list? if true, I hope this doesn't lead to PHPNuke-style forum problems, where one has to click thru several dozen "stickies" and "announcements" to see the actual new posts. but I like the new forum set-up. I reckon y'all will get everything the way everyone likes it, given time.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 2:55 PM

Uhm yes, Mark All Read works, but that really shouldn't be necessary. You might not be totally done reading all new threads, even if you think you are. And what happens if someone posts right as you click the Mark All Read? Is that post marked as read too, so you'll miss it? I'll consider "Mark All Read" a workaround. A temporary solution. And I hope eventually the mere action of reading the post will trigger the star fading to grey. Just as it does on any other PHP-based forum I know of...

Yes, as I said they are working on implementing it so that it works automatically as it should. But in the meantime you can use Mark all read.

How about a way to jump to the first post since your last visit (or since marking a thread read as the case may be)?
