I love the new look of the forums so far, but there are 2 things that I found that frustrate me. First: The search feature is awful!!! I tried the search function for the term "lighting", so I could start rebookmarking favourite threads. In particular I was looking for a thread started in January 2006 called "Lighting Question". I found that the search sorts by "relevancy" instead of chronologically. And that there are 24692 threads for me to look through. I'm not interested in what the forum search deems to be "relevant" and possibly placing my thread as 24,600 in the list. Can the search results be sorted chronologically please? Second: When I went to make athread, I was asked which forum I wanted my post to appear in. I think that should be automatically determined based on the forum you are in when you go to make a new thread.

Cause it is on the rosity store servers, the URL is market.rendo.... as well. And I have to admit while it looks good and not just another PHP clone it is damn slow, and those stars are nasty looking IMO

Ok, after trying the search feature and finding it impossible to find anything that way, I decided to try some of my old bookmarks. I found that the old bookmarks still work. However, one thing that's changed with them is that the images in the threads show very small and squished. In order to view them full size you have to click on the image and open it into a new window and then use "Zoom" in your browser to enlarge it. Can the images be shown at their full size in the forums please?

I don't like the little icons. This is a graphics site, and it shouldn't have cheesy-looking icons. I don't like the confusing forum list. Could we made get alternating colors (like they are within the threads) on there? It's way hard to read. Also, the "hide this forum" doesn't work. Neither do the ebots from the old system. The new ones do. I do like having an avatar, finally. And smilies. And not having a bajillion replies to the same thread taking up a ton of space. edit: Ditto to Ghost's suggestion about thread bumping.

OK here is my input. I also have it so to get to the site I do not have to login because it remembers me but in the forum I had to login and then I clicked on option and had to login again. I unchecked all the forums I can not get to or that I don't want to show up and saved the change. But again it takes me to a login page. I then checked to see if only the forums I want to show up was listed but no they are all showing up still so the changes are not taking effect. To get to this forum I had to login and then login again to get to this thread. Also I have been type all this without hitting the entry key so I am still typing on the first line because there is no word wrap and to see what I have typed I have to scroll tru it all. Now lets see if I can post this with another login screen coming up. I can not post because it took me to the login screen and then after login it too me to the main forum page and fter that login to this forum and after the next login to this thread where my post was no here. Getting around the forum is slower then ever too waiting for page loads and login after login make it even worse. Then saving all this in the post here so I can post it later when the site will let me post and not keep wanting me to login each time I click any link that has to deal with the forum. Now seeing the images the speed is better then it had been the pass week. Ok I can take forums out of the forum list from the main forum page here http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/index.php but not tru the options page. But to do so this way I have to ckick hide on each one of them one at a time and then wait and wait and login again and wait and wait for the page to load. Then on doing the login I got this... Form Validation Error: Please press Back, correct the errors, and try again. Well only error is the site not working right. Plus the whole site is now very slow and that is the images that was loading ok. Opps so much for going to the main forum page and clicking hide on the forums because after leaving the site and coming back the forums I had hiding are now back. OK I found the login troubles after seeing that the forums are now in the http://market.renderosity.com because of they way I had things in my cookie manager I was blocking cookies from http://market.renderosity.com and before your change here I could get into the forums and post but not now so I unblocked that cookie and made the forum option changes and it worked. :) You may want to post so other know that they can not block that cookie anymore if they want to get into the forum so they will not go nuts like I did. But it is still not remembering things right because if I do not keep the cookies on my PC when I go to the forum link it lists all the forums. I have to login into the forum to get the list to show only the forums I picked in my options.

Yes they do. Click on "My Options" above the forum and you can set what forums you want to see or hide.

OK Bad thing here. You got up top "make all visible" so I wanted to see if it was just there so I could see the forums I was hiding and it will show you all the forums. But it also changed my options so now all forums will show up and I have to redo my options again. You need to fix how that works so it only shows you all the forums but it will not effect what forum your hiding in your options. Plus be nice to have word wrapin this reply box so we can see what we are typing more easy.
Attached Link: Lighting Question
I tried searching for "lightning" and only got 475 results. It was not until I included every post of all time did I get only 23,781 results. However, seeing as how there are 2.6 million messages in our forums, you wouldn't want to search through every post of all time. We are adding an ability to match a search exactly. Sorry this did not get in here sooner. However, for now I went and found the thread for you. I believe (and hope) the forum you are looking for is in the attached link.Quote - "I love the new look of the forums so far, but there are 2 things that I found that frustrate me. They don't for me. I did that and saved it. They didn't hide. My list of them comes up with the ones I wanted hidden unchecked, but they're still there when I go to the forum list.

butterfly_fish, See my two post above and maybe that will help. I hate that if I do not keep the New cookies we have to have to get to the fourms now because when I do get to the forum page it does not rememeber me so I have to login. But after te login it take you to http://market.renderosity.com/index.php and not to the forum page that you think your go back to and see just the forums you want that you had picked n your option. I do not sell anything hear or have I buy anything but just use the image Galleries and forums so why all the changes like this with the cookies and then after login to the forum being taken to a page to see all the ads.
Hey guys..for those who's forums are not hiding, try dumping your cookies and temp folders then log back in and see if it works then...I havent had this problem, so maybe that will get it set straight. @Lyne..You can change the font size by holding ctrl + mouse scroll

Thanks williamsn, but I hope that the search feature gets an overhall because it's pretty impossible to find anything as it is now. I tried to access a bookmark of mine for the Paint Shop Pro forum and was sent to the main forum list. I tried to search my name in the Paint Shop Pro forum so that I could retrieve the thread. The only threads that showed up for "Acadia" were ones that had my name in the subject. When I tried to search only "my threads" or whatever it's called, nothing showed up. I eventually found the thread because I happened to remember that "Card" was one of the words in the subject line. Will we be able to search by user name as well? It's very useful when it comes to trying to look up old posts.

OK, I know I may as well talk to the wall here and get a better responce but here goes. I tried the search..searched for several message I had started about some of the buildings I had done in Poser. Looks like the conversion lost some messages. There were 2 message threads about the house I was working on and the search feature only found one off them. I tried searching for a few other things that I know were here before the conversion, and now, they aren't. My profile shows I have 1977 posts so I thought I'd be able to find my message throuogh that. Well, only 29 messages I posted showed up. Looks like the other 1948 messages I posted are lost. Oh, now that is strange, that's also the year I was born...LOL.
If you go to "my stats" at the top of the page, you'll get a link to your posts. You may have to change the age if the post is older than 45 days.
There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.
Sorry, didn't see your post, must've posted at the same time. I changed the age to older than 45 days and left the search box empty, and it returned 801 posts, so it did lose some of them. I didn't notice that before.

I second that, the search is now about as usefull for me as it was before the changeover, chronological should be an option.. & what determines the relevance of a thread?
I don't have any cookies blocked. And I don't need it working badly enough to make me want to toss my cookies. :tongue2: Maybe it's my browser, then. I'm currently using Opera, but I'm getting fed up with things not working right in it.

I too am having the double and triple log in issues...not just for the forums, but wasnt sure where to put it before, but after PHP change, I now have to log in twice to get to the forums... I definately think some order has to be done in each of the forums themselves, its all much more confusing now, but I do know how crabby PHP can be and you guys did do a great job of changing things over with out any errors, just small bugs. those stars...must go...smile
Why does the entire site have such teeny fonts with the new software? Surely you aren't trying to weed out all us seniors??? I'm tired of using that dang magnifier for everything. Please be kind to your elders. :)

Ok, it was Opera. The stupid thing made me refresh the forum list about 5 times before the ones I didn't want went away. I'm thinking it's back to FF. Can we have a contest for people to make new forum icons? Or can we enslave whoever it was that won the header contest and make them do the icons? :m_laugh:

:b_grin: Not bad, like the new format and got to go find my usual avatar later on that I use other places. Seems pretty fast tonight. The slowness probably had to do with converting lots of data in a fairly short time. I think they did pretty good on the conversion. Haven't trie dthe search as of yet.
While we're still in the implementing phase, I'd like to put in a request for e-mail notices when someone sends you a PM. And for you guys to make it so I only get one "someone has responded" bot until I go back and check again. I don't really need 400 e-bots in my inbox.

cherokee69, Yes it is like we come to Renderosity but now there is http://www.renderosity.com/ and http://market.renderosity.com that we have to aso log into to get to the fourun. At http://market.renderosity.com you can not click on the logo to get back homw to http://www.renderosity.com/ either. So it like we come to one place like we have done in the pass but it is two sites now and that is why the added cookies and login just to get to the forum and I guess maybe other places I don't go to.
I thought that new posts were going to move the thread to the top? That doesn't seem to be happening.

Another thing I'm noticing is that threads that are newly posted in sometimes don't show up as a "new post". I'm logging from here for a few days until some of the features get ironed out. I find I'm becoming very aggravated with some changes that are seemingly "broken" and it's making maneuvering and reading these forums extremely difficult at the moment.

I really like the new forum set-up...thanks to Rendo for the changes you're making!! I DO agree with the general comment that the small font sizes being used here and in the store are tough on the eyes.

It's important to note that "standard PHP" does not have forums. PHP is an internet scripting language. You can write forums with PHP, but there is no "standard PHP forum." There are PHP forum packages available for resuse such as phpBB, but these packages do not fit into the vision of Renderosity, nor are they something that Bondware can sell to its customers. If you want to show new posts since last visit, then making it habit to "mark all forums read" (points to menu bar at top) before you leave the forums or "mark all topics read" (points to forum menu) before you leave a forum and go to another will allow you to come back and see which posts are new since your last visit. hope that helped
Quote - " Quote - "show new posts since last visit" "
Standard php has that already. Don't know why Rosity changed it."

But if you use the "Mark all read" it will ...well.. mark all read, even if you're not done reading them all. A "Show New Posts" would do just that - show you new posts that might have arrived WHILE you were reading another one. So here's another vote for that feature. I think people who buys a Bondware Forum would also expect that to be present - after all it is in all standard PHPFORUMS so why not here?

Another thing: the page width seems to be absolute. That's a horrible waste of space on my 1600x1200px CRT. The old forum format used the entire screen width. Can this feature be put back?

Put in a request to the site design team. The forums are forced to adhere to the dimensions of this site. Sorry

So... the vision of Renderosity involves lacking features that even some of the smallest, simplest boards have, does it? No BB code, only HTML? No links with a person's posts to their store and gallery, or to IM or email them? No ignore? (A feature that would save mods a lot of headaches...) And the list goes on... while the list of features offered is pretty short. You're actually planning to try to sell this stuff are you? Good luck!
A "Show New Posts" feature probably wouldn't be as necessary if the threads were sorted by last post instead of first post. Then all of the threads with new posts will be at the top of the lists no matter what. Why would the threads be sorted by first post by default in the first place?

I will get used to most of the forum changes eventually, but there is one thing that is absolutely ridiculous. The forum page now is only 70% of the window width, and by the time you remove the margins at both sides the working area is only half the window. This would be OK for reading posts but any graphics are now much smaller than before and the quality is shocking. Try looking at some wires in earlier posts and you will see what I mean. The only way I can see any detail now is to download the image. Since this is an Arts Community The quality of the graphics should be the major factor in page design.I hate to think what the galleries will be like when they are converted, it will probably not be worth posting anything. Hi all, Trying out the new forums I came across a few (minor) issues: Renderosity time. In the old forums, the server time was displayed along with the date. Really useful for members living in another time zone, and I'd love to see it return. Speed. The forums are SLOW! Maybe it just has to do with many users trying out the new forums, but it takes up to a minute to load a forum page (and my connection is definitely NOT slow. 6 Mbit DSL). Options. All forums are shown, even those a site member cannot access. It's just a minor glitch, but I think it would be better to only show the non-"forbidden" forums to the user. In general, I like the new forums. Showing only thread titles on the forum page is definitely an improvement.
