Subject: HELP!! My Nikon is dying.

We just came back from a trip in the sun with the cameras. After about half an hour, my camera begin to go highwire on me and I have no idea what happened, but the picture in the display got very disorted and it looked pretty much the same as the photos I took at the time that is in this post. The first time it happened it vanished after I turned the camera off and on again, but the second time it didn't matter what I did. I've got a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and it's about 2 years old now. I dropped it once when I was in Liverpool the first summer, but there were never any problems after that. And since then nothing like that have happened either. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? It's a very bad timing because I'm all over the place taking photos for an upcoming art exhibition in June and I use my photos to make the drawings from. C - who can't afford a new camera right now.

:ohmy:Oh man, that is awful! Have you tried taking out the batteries, then putting them back in? Still a problem. Maybe a few light taps? :unsure: The best guess I could hazzard is there is something loose inside, but I am far from sure. The pixel colors don't seem to be aligning properly, with the problem even more evident as you move left in the image. If it is a hardware issue, you are out of luck. Try looking on the nikon website...maybe even calling a camera store. They might have an answer. Or perhaps someone else in the Forum has seen this before. Good luck Christa.:mellow:

HI croxie it looks like you have damaged the sensor, it seems to have come out of its seating. It may be that it may be something else, but that seems the most likely

Kort - I've tried everything. Did that while I was at the church we went to today. And I'm checking the web as I'm replying to this. There's nothing lose inside it that I can hear when I shake it a bit, but you never know. Doesn't mean that it have to move around just because it's lose. John - Thanks, I will look into that. I might have to give the camera store a call like Kort said and ask if they can take a look at it too. C.

Tech support at Nikon might be able to help just from seeing the photo example. Of course, they might tell you to go buy a new cam...which really isn't much help... :glare: I hope it works out. :sad:

I think I found out what's wrong, and the best part of it all is that I might not have to pay a dime for Nikon to fix this. Take a look at the attached link. It fits pretty well with what my images looks like when this happens. C.

I think you will find it is a faulty sensor and a known problem. Nikon will repair free of charge even when outside warranty so there is the place to go. Aha now I see you have found it disregard what I said it is the same as you have found out :D Many CCD sensors have the problem it is not exclusive to Nikon but a whole series of sensors supplied to many manufacturers.

Ahh, you know, I had heard of this issue. :m_confused: I'm not sure why I didn't think to mention it. There is left only the issue of being without a camera while your sensor is replaced...you said you have a busy time ahead. :m_sadblink:

Yup. I'm taking photos of local places for the sake of having subjects for 35 drawings before the end of May. It's still too cold to work outdoors, so it's easier to take photos and work in the couch :) I will have a chat with Jessops where I bought the camera and see if they can send it to Nikon for me. Will probably take a couple of weeks to get it back. Robin had to wait for almost a month before he had his Canon back when they fixed it for him. Hopefully Nikon is a bit faster than that. Hello Croxie.. Replying to your issue.. that is a factory issue in most of the Nikon Products.. that issue's been fixed in the Digital SLR cameras.. And even tho D50 & D70 had the same issue sometimes.. But now it is fixed with the more expensive ones Like the DX series.. And also that is why they released the Canon 20D-a and the new 30D instead of the regular Digital SLR 20D.. It is a sensor and proccessor issue.. And the best way to send it to the factory if you are still under their warranty.. Other wise it needs some new firmware to solve it.. and it can be only done either by an authorized dealer of Nikon.. or the Factory!! Other then that i really can't help.. Becasue it is a hardware & software issue at the same time (eEPROM-FIRMWARE).. And i will never go for Nikon no matter how they are good or famous :sneaky:..
