Subject: P4 to P5 - Something goes wrong with tExpo setting

I have a material than uses a transparency map - the Trans Min is set to 0&, the Max to 100% and the falloff is 0. I created the .pp2 files in Poser 4 and everything renders fine there, and the tExpo value for the material in the file is definitely 0. But when I import the files into Poser 5, the Transparency_Falloff value changes to 0.6 and does not render properly.

Critter, I cannot replicate this mistake. I created a box with a texture, made the Trans Min 0, the Max 100, and set falloff to 0. I imported this into Poser 5 and 6, and both times my fallof stayed at 0. Are you importing this to Poser 5 by linked runtimes, physically moving the prop to Poser 5, or saving as PZ3 and opening this in Poser 5. Once I can replictae the mistake, I can see what is causing it. Maybe if you could show screenshots of the material in Poser 4 and 5 we can pick up on something. Helgard

Thanks for replying! In this sample, the prop was installed in Poser 5 and the placed into the scene. I have also imported a pz3 after installing the prop. I think I found the problem - I had not installed the latest service pack (SR4?) for Poser 5 on this computer. Installed it and the bug vanished - Transparency_falloff is zero. Maybe the old out of box version must have had a problem importing the tExpo value. Whew!

Critter, glad you sorted it out. Just a suggestion, I see you have no bump map on the fence. I have made a few fences and grids and things, and I find the addition of a bump map greatly increases the realism of the fence, especially on things like barbed wire.

Thanks for the suggestion, I may do some experiments to see how it looks. I think that it would be especially nice for a rusty fence texture.

Sorry I don't have any close up pics ready here, but if you look at the barbed wire fence in this pic, you will see that you can actually see the "barbs" instead of it being a smooth wire. The barbs are not modelled, they are done with bumps. Lol, I am confusing myself here, nothing is modelled, it is a cylinder with a texture, but you know what I mean.
