Subject: 30D...which lens?

Radlafx ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 9:30 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:13 AM

I am planning on getting a EOS 30D but don't know which lens to get. I'll be shooting events with fast action (i.e. bar-mitzvahs, weddings, etc) and baseball at night. :b_confused: P.S. for weddings I'm just a backup (for now at least).

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

Go with the 16-35L(first choice) or even the 24-105L, wouldnt hurt to have the 70-200 f2.8 IS USM either. Good luck!

For your indoor events they do a kit with a 17-85 IS lens which is very good and usually comes with an attractive price tag for the kit. For the baseball something longer I would imagine but you need to try them in a shop because some of the lenses can be quite bulky and heavy and may not be suitable for action events. The lower the F number the faster they focus but the bigger and heavier they are too.

We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---

Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

If you dont need real wide angle and have a fair budget the 24-70 f2.8 L and the 70-200 f2.8 L make an excellent combination. The link you supplied is an 28-300, this is IMO one of sigmas lower end lenses, what you get is a very versatile focal range but lenses with a wide zoom range usually compromise quality for convenience IMO, I however dont know anything about that lens so cant offer an opinion on its optical quality. The Lenses MTF charts will be available on the Sigma site which is a good indication of what its optical performance is like.

Hello Radlafx.. I saw your link tho.. and since you found that Sigma one.. then i do reccommend you to go with TAMRON.. LOOK AT THIS ONE!! OR LOOK AT THIS ONE!! And for the wide one.. Why don't you get a WIDE/FISH EYE! with 1 or more X zoom? Extender for those lenses :) Wish you the best JOE
