Subject: M3 Hair (March Madness)

Friday's March Madness item is "Kurt Hair" for M3, by Neftis. Only $1.50, until tomorrow night. Really nice hair. I'd have bought this one at full price.

I picked it up too. Perfect for female and even anime figures.

Has anyone tried it in P6 yet? If so does it have the same problems as the Mihai Hair?

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 07 April 2006 at 11:27 PM

STOMP fixes the problem with Mihai Hair. It still takes awhile to render, but it doesn't hang up like it was, and it doesn't take 20 hours to render either. I don't know the link to STOMP though. Can't find anything in the search since the change over. Maybe someone else can give the link to where it can be downloaded.

Haven't tried it yet, but Neftis was aware of the problems with the Mihai Hair, and I believe she fixed them on subsequent hair models.

Done in Poser 6. I don't have my M3 runtime on my hard drive currently, so I used Vicky. Not sure if I positioned the hair properly though. The results are on the image. I'm going to run it through STOMP and that will probably speed up the render time. I'll let you know if it helps any.

STOMP is available from a link at the Morphography website. http://www.morphography.uk.vu/utilities.html The author is Keith "Spanki" Young, according to that website.

I ran the .obj file through STOMP and reduced the render time of that same image above to 10 minutes. I forgot to indicate that I had turned off "Cast Shadow" for the hair. Something I usually do for hair that is neck length or more because I hate the black voids that often appear in the neck area with the shadows on. So I definitly advise running the file through STOMP as it will cut down on the time to render.

Thank you both. That's much better than Mihai even without STOMP. Will be interesting to see if STOMP does speed it. I'll have to find STOMP and see what it does to Mihai which I have never used because of the time problem. In the meantime I'll take up Daz's offer!

Last two replies came in whilst I was typing my reply! LOL! Thank you for the link, infinity10 and to Acadia for taking the time to run the renders.

wow, I rendered it in P6sr2, Lucas texture on M3, full firefly and it took maybe 5-10 minutes.

You're probably not working on a 4 year old laptop that only has 512MB DDR Ram.

no, 4 year old desktop with a gig :)

westryde ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 12:58 AM

My experience was the same as Mary's. A full render took about 10 minutes. (2 year old desktop computer and 1 gig of memory, Poser 6 SR2). And then ..... I re-installed the original Mihai, used the same settings and it rendered in approximately the same time! In neither case did I need to use STOMP. So now I have two new hair styles for the men!

I honestly haven't tired Mihai in a while. I'll have to get it off cd and reinstall it. I honestly wish I could find some that would fit certain comic heroes sigh
