For those who say they don't like Dynamic Clothing, I urge you to reconsider. You won't get this with conforming items.

that's really gorgeous. i don't use anything but dynamic either. you just gotta work it out. how many cloth layers? what settings? did you parent the waist piece to the waist or forearm or add constrained verts? gracias

Very nice indeed! thanks for the encouragement. I've only tried dynamics a couple times; I need to get back in that room for some more practice.

It's the Starlight Dress from RDNA. It's 2 pieces...a dress and a shawl. Each is one layer. You work the dress first, then the shawl. The only thing is that I'm not crazy about the way the shawl behaves once it gets to the bottom of the dress. It positions very well, but it's a long shawl and drags on the ground for quite a way. The shawl loses it's shimmery texture and takes on a flat hue of whatever colour you are rendering over, on the parts that aren't over the body or gown. You can see a bit of what I mean on the front of the skirt. I cropped it away from the bottom of the dress, because on the floor it looked like a patch of dingy grey that didn't belong. It seems it's because of the transparency. I'll have to play around with the settings for that. It comes with a really great tutorial on how to work with it too. You need a basic understanding of the cloth room as the bare basics aren't covered.

Acadia, Is the dress entirely dynamic? I'm curious about the bodice... I would have made that conforming and the skirt dynamic (which is the way I'm doing my current project.. and no it's not far enough along for pictures yet, sorry). I like the extra detail in conforming groups, wrinkles and such, that fade it you make them dynamic. mike

Is making Dynamic clothing the same as making conforming cloths? Have to make the mesh and such? How are they made? I like dynamics to.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 08 April 2006 at 3:21 AM

acadia I'll let you know how it works out .. last time I made dynamic (the loose suit) I spent an hour keeping her pants from sltihering off... robo2010 theres some things to look out for .. self intersecting mesh, polys with 2 normals (doublefacing polys) and so on. I think PhilC mentions all this in one of his tutorials for converting conforming to dynamic clothing

Lyrra, That's another of the advantages of Hybrid clothing (confomring/Dynamics) the confroming bits anchor the dynamic bits. One of the reasons I asked a bout the bodice. There are 2 ways to make a strapless bodice stay up. constrained or in some cases choreographed groups or by mixing conforming/dynamics. The thing about conforming groups is they still move like normal conformers so you can control thier pose, while the dynamic groups are more free flowing and draping. Robo2010, Yes you still have to make the clothing mesh. If it's strictly Dynamic than you only have to make constrained goups of certain piece need to stay in place. If they are hybrids as i discussed above them some partsstill need to be grouped and boned for posing. Attached is a simple hybrid the dress from the waiste up is conforming, but dynamic for the waiste down. The folds and shaping for the neck piece and the upper arms stay because they are conforming, while the skirt flows, because it's dynamic. mike

beautiful render, Acadia ๐Ÿ˜„ I was always interested in dynamic clothing and it seems to be easier to create DC, than CC

Robo 2010 the mesh needs to be one sided to work properly. Nice render Acadia.

Wow!! Nice render Acadia. I made this nice dress for Laura, and even included folds and wrinkles. Funny thing though, is that they smoothed out in the simulation. Irregardless, Laura is very happy with her new dress, even if it is untextured. -Starkdog

Yes, entirely dynamic. Also, Olivier came up with a new material for the shawl which will be available in the free area there. Now the shawl retains it's shimmer and colour all the way to the end instead of disappearing at the hemline.

Here is a thread on working with the Morphing Fantasy Dress in the cloth room. I also have an image in my gallery called "Ashley", which shows the Posh Dynamic Dress by EnglishBob. It's a hybrid dress with the bodic conformed and the skirt dynamic.
