Subject: Free Carrara Studio 2.1

Hi

I usually hang out in the Bryce and poser sections but I've noticed that 3D World Magazine Issue #77 as a free full version of Carrara Studio 2.1 with it. I was just wondering about a few things with this version so thought Id as here to see if anyone knows.

Can this version import and export the usual model formats such as obj and 3ds?

Can it Handel poser figures? Pz3s?

If so will it bring textures in with the imports?

Just curious as Id like to be able to bring other things in to render

cheers for any info

Import and export are okay. But Poser import is only possible via TransPoser, that only works from Carrara version 4. I think there is a very nice upgrade offer in the magazine, version 5 has native import of Poser characters (so can keep on posing and morphing). A lot of people are turning to Carrara 5 to render their Poser figures. For good reasons!

Apparently Carrara 3D Basic 1.0 is also being given away on a DVD cover on another magazine... Which would be the better product Carrara Studio 2.1 or Carrara 3D Basic 1.0...???

Well, the second one is more Basic. Advantage: less things to fiddle with. Disadvantage: less things to fiddle with.

Which one would be better for rendering and or texturing/UV mapping...???

Carrara Studio. Basic has always been it's little brother with less options for lesser money. Now you have the chance to get big bro for free, don't think about it.

Does anyone know if it runs in OSX (not Classic) Mac or is it System 9 only?
