Subject: Straw Poll - Site Speed

Mahray ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 8:46 AM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 3:31 AM

I was wondering what other people felt about this. Since the upgrade to PHP, I've found Rosity to be as fast or faster than before. I only experience occasional slowdowns, mainly when I mark things read before x time. Mahray

It's superfast now! At least warp 7...

I'd have times where I clicked and the page would just churn and churn without loading. I haven't had those since the upgrade. I guess this is faster.

wildman2 ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 11:55 AM

Generaly slower.

"Reinstall Windows" is NOT a troubleshooting step.

ek-art ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 12:08 PM

To me it seems slower than before (and I don't really like this interface either..)

I would have to say I have noticed a significant increase in the speed of the Renderosity site since the PHP upgrade and I am loving it. :b_drool:

At moments, it's very fast. And at other times, it can be quite slow - waiting up to half a minute for a page to load.

I've noticed quite an up-tick in speed overall.I'm getting used to the new format, and rather liking it. Now, I just have to come up with a decent avatar.😄

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 2:09 PM

quite fast now for me, no slower then other forums i've regularly been at.

Page load speed is about the same; BUT It takes me 5 x as long to find the same information due to the new forum software!

Claymor ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 3:16 PM

It occassionally takes quite a bit longer to load up a forum page. Once on the page the threads load fine. So overall I'd say no improvement.

Forum is v e r y s l o w... The rest of Rendo seems a bit faster though.

About the same for me. I'm not sure I like the format yet. Have to drag the scroll bar a lot more just to view single line responses. Not very efficient for me. Avitars and quotes are cute but.... are they really necessary. I'll get used to it I guess.

pauljs75 ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2006 at 5:48 PM

Seems the same speed here, if not slightly faster. Not sure if the internet routing path to the new servers is any different though.

I wish, lol. But, I do admit, when my comcast cable modem/internet IS working...it can fly. (6+ mbps) But, this last weekens had sucked for me, but that was comcasts fault, not Renderosity. *I did have very slow Renderosity speeds for me today in the Galleries. Probably averaged 60-90 seconds to bring up a new page of thumbs everytime.

Gosh! The site is absolutely flying now. Speed to load gallery thumbs, forums, etc is up about 200% since earlier today. Maybe it is a server load thing. But it is Zooming now.

haloedrain ( ) posted Tue, 11 April 2006 at 1:52 AM · edited Tue, 11 April 2006 at 1:53 AM

Generally faster for me, but the stars and smileys are way slow--wish they'd set it up so the graphics cached properly, it shouldn't have to load every single one when they're all just duplicates, that'll kill the server eventually.... And personally, php would definitely not have been my language of choice if I were the one redoing the forum... It's got some nice tools for it, but if speed was the main concern, there are better options. But I might be biased, I'm a java programmer at heart 😉

I'm on dialup, so no big change for me. The only time I really notice any delay is on the initial load of the first accessed page. After that it moves pretty quick. (editted for spulliung!)

6 Mbit DSL: speed varies greatly. Sometimes reasonably fast (those yellow stars are the major slowdown), sometimes excruciatingly slow. In general not much speed difference with the previous version of the forums. Usability is down. I rather liked the spartan no-nonsense look of the old forums, I have no use for avatars and smilies. Some important functionality is missing - uploading text files is important in the scripting forums, so is the use of < pre > tags.

dadt ( ) posted Tue, 11 April 2006 at 10:18 AM

Difficult to tell, my broadband speed was doubled just as the change went through. The forums don't seem much different, but changing the "sort by" setting on a large forum often causes a timeout on my browser. The freestuff and galleries seem very fast, so I guess the forums are actully slower than they used to be.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 11 April 2006 at 8:17 PM

"those yellow stars are the major slowdown"

I'm just getting on today, but so far I have been reading that the programmers are fixing this (caching) problem and/or might be fixed as of now.
