Looks  kinda like a circular slide rule on a theodolite or a or to measure geographical points.

I am afraid not, Doug.
No theodolite or any other geographical tool.

So far the feedback has been HOT but ...

... a hint ... it is a detail of a photo I posted in my gallery and was chosen to be included in the LWITG some time ago.

All I can think of is that yes,'Castelmath' sounds indeed apropos of Scotland.'Math' is actually a gaelic word...Sigh...My geekiness is showing once again,lol.

Yep, Castell math ruler allright... I saw it in your gallery; never saw it before ;-) Not the slightest idea what it is for... And even if you told me, I wouldn't understand a word, or letter, or number...

To be "precise" it looks like you have marked out 1 millimeter on this math slide ruler.
