Well if you won't shift to a browser that supports it, I'm afraidyou're SOL. Personally I wouldn't touch IEwith a bargepole but I DO use Firefox.
I agree that it's a royal PITA to have to change browser to watch this forum and use it properly though. Just saying that I don't think there's anything else to do.

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Oooh I didn' even know it could be collapsed... Not sure I can see the use for that either since there's no way then to format your text,but...that MIGHT be what is happening to Erlich

Yes, there is. For the programmers to create a proper editor. If such an editor, with what appears to be almost identical Javascript, works on CG Talk, it can work here, too.

Aye, but what browser are you using? They've stated that they're not going to support Safari on Mac, if that's what you're on.
So I doubt they'll rewrite the editor...

yup.
A few, actually -- the one that caught my eye right away was the image function.
Seems that relative URLs are ok for the location of images posted through the editor in Mozilla based browsers, but complete URLs are not. Which is so many people are having issues getting images into their postings from offsite using the editor.
heh.

Quote - As I told ynsaen in the other thread, there are editors that work. So Renderosity can create one, too, if they don't want to use a ready-made solution. If they want to sell this forum, they better be ready to support everything.
And I'm on Windows Opera.
Everything? All 567 known browsers, when the combined total of all but five is less than 9% of the total browsing population?
That's unreasonable.

Of the 9%? prolly about 4% (older versions and formats). The rest are specialty browsers for specific purpsoes (math, text only, etc).
incidentally, williamsn asked what browser you were using in the other thread.

Attached Link: Internet Explorer 5 for Mac Discontinued
As stated above, IE for Mac is no longer supported. Not only is it no longer supported, it has long been accepted by the Mac community that IE for Mac sucks. Seriously. It doesn't support anything. Most Javascript applications don't work in IE ... period.Opera is only used by a very small (I think it's less than 2%?) percentage of Internet users and, although we would like to be able to support Opera fully, we have to find the solution that satisfies the needs of the largest group of people to the fullest degree.
Safari is a different issue altogether. In the light of recent jumps in browser technology, many users in the Mac community have taken the opinion that Safari should be redeveloped or restored to Beta testing. It supports less Javascript / Active Controls than even IE for Mac. Apple simply has not done a good job keeping up with browser technology. The only thing Safari has that surpasses any other browsers is its superior RSS Browsing.
Don't get me wrong I love my Mac. It's all I use except when I'm testing compatibility. I tested the editing application on IE, FF and Netscape for Windows and FF and Netscape for Mac without any problems whatsoever. Many of the errors I am hearing about seem to be happening on two (or more) different computers who have the identical setup. I would suggest that it could likely be a result of Javascript or Security settings.
As long as a browser has full HTML / Javascript standards-compliant capabilities (Netscape, IE, FF, Mozilla) and the user has not deactivated anything important, there should be no problem. Unfortunately, this is not my baby to debug. It is a third-party application licensable that has been used rigorously on sites totally over a million users and modifications are not allowed.
Hope this helped and sorry if it didn't.

I have IE6 and cannot see the html editor at all - is it something to do with security settings rather than being browser specific?
I also have to type in BR tags to get line breaks.
I also don't appear to have the links available for editing / deleting my posts they were there briefly this morning but they're gone now :-(

Again, Netscape has about 0.5% of the browser market in March of 2006. About three times less than Opera. So why do you test for such a minuscule market if you're trying to satisfy the needs of the largest group of people?
The Web is not about browsers anymore and hasn't been for a while. It's about standards.
If Renderosity is broken in Explorer 7 and Opera 8, which both support standards, (even though they have their bugs) it's not the problem of a browser.

I found that enabling Script Debugging in my internet options allows the html formatting editor thing to be displayed. (under Tools / Internet options / Advanced tab ) - not sure how useful it is though! Other than that the line breaks now seem to work properly :-)
However, the links for editing / deleting my posts still dissappear about half an hour after posting. Tina

I realize that Safari on the Mac may not have the same level of capabilities as other browsers. However, this is the only php-based site I visit that seemes to have a problem allowing me to format text or eneter a carriage return. Thus it would appear that this incarnation of php does not have the same level of capabilities as the others.

If the standard that the PTB uses is going to be "what has the highest level of capabilities" it would appear that they've grossly failed.

Frankly, I'm starting to get rather annoyed.
Before they made me they broke the mold!

After my ecstatic post some minutes earlier, I discovered that I have to use HTML elements to format the paragraphs in my posts.
Otherwise, everything is just one block of text.
Also, in another forum, I read that you can format the text with bold and italics. Where? No buttons that I see.
I can format text with HTML, but I don't think it was what was expected. And the checkbox about using HTML disappeared.
So, am I missing something? Where are the new options?
