Subject: Accepted HTML tags

nruddock ( ) posted Sat, 08 April 2006 at 1:31 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 9:12 AM

Can we have a list of which HTML tags the new forum software allows, please ? If there's a difference between what's accepted when "This message is in HTML, do not format" is unchecked and checked, please indicate in the reply.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Sat, 08 April 2006 at 2:21 PM

not an official reply,
mind you, but table tags
don't seem to work:b_smile:

I asked for some type of code sticky so when people want to add signatures or links....you cant even put in the code code to help people out.... Just one more thing to add to the list...

I thought this question, especially the second part, was a really really good question. is anyone official ever going to give us an answer? what is the point of having the checkbox for "This message is in HTML, do not format" if it treats tags as tags even when that box is NOT checked?

The checkbox prevents the forum from automatically converting new lines to
tags, in case you are already using something like
or

tags, etc.

thanks for the info. maybe that checkbox should be re-named, then? if the only thing it does is insert

and/or
tags, then perhaps a name such as "Do not add HTML linebreaks" might be better? it'd also be helpful to have a list of tags that ARE supported, as some useful things such as

 apparently aren't...

I've found that quotes don't seem to work in stylesheets. I'm not sure why that is.

Sorry this took so long to get back to y'all. I had to go and to a more comprehensive look at all the available HTML tags and then get any additions approved. Italics weren't working because the editor was using instead of . Here are a list of all the available tags. For the most part, the editor shouldn't be using any tags now that the forums filter out. If you see something you think needs to be added, let me know.

testing italics and bold yep it works :-)

?

PLEASE?!

Oh and could the text editor possibly be a wee bit wider? It's using localized versions of  "style", "font" and "size" and it means that I can't see anything right of the Numbered List button because those words are longer in danish.
(it has already been made a little bigger coz yesterday I could only see the bulleted list's button)

It could be made user configurable. The section from "Reply" up to the "Notify me when someone replies" checkbox is one iframe with hardcoded width and height. As far as I know, those properties can (and should) be put in a style.

According to a standards website for HTML, is not a universally supported tag and, like can cause instability. Its use has been discouraged. At this time, we will not be implementing strike. Sorry to disappointed you.

regarding Mac OS:

blockquote tags are now recognised in my browsers
unordered list tags are recognised in my browsers
font tags work in my browsers

just a few bugs remaining:

  • there's no html checkbox or buttons showing in any of my browsers
  • the notify checkbox is always checked
even though I have unchecked notify in all the forums
  • nor are the "return" nor "enter" keystrokes recognised,
even though they show up in the source code

Miss Nancy, does the "Source" button work for you?

svdl, there are no html buttons showing in any of my browsers
not bold, not source, not italic (here I'm just guessing, as I've never
seen any of them, mind you). the only buttons visible are "choose file",
"preview reply" and "post reply".

the pulldown menu to select a forum to enter is fully functional for me
only in explorer (due to its less strict DOM). however, the forum
pulldown menu is just a continuous list of all the forums in both
netscape and safari, although it is slightly less bad in netscape.

all of this pertains to Mac OS (9.0.x - 9.2.x and 10.2.x - 10.4.x).

williamsn ( ) posted Thu, 13 April 2006 at 3:25 PM

Miss Nancy,

Due to the fact that browsers available for Mac OS 9 simply do NOT comply to today's accepted standards (because that system is no longer supported), Bondware was forced to tell all of its clients last November that we would no longer be supporting users of Mac OS 9.

As for Mac OS X, I can tell you that forum drop-down menus work perfectly for me in every browser on my PPC PowerBook and my Intel MacBook Pro, and that the HTML editor works perfectly for me in Netscape 7.2 and FireFox 1.5.x on my PPC PowerBook and my Intel MacBook Pro. Safari on OS X and Opera on OS X or Windows are NOT JavaScript standards-compliant browsers and are not supported by the HTML editor. I would suggest using Netscape 7.2 or FireFox 1.5.x.

Sorry for the bad news

thanks for the info, nick and jumpy.

one other item: the chat room doesn't work in any of my browsers in Mac OS 9.x (no surprises there) 😄
whereas the chat room has partial functionality in safari (no scroll bar under user column and no command list) and is fully functional in exploder.
I'm hoping to avoid using netscape very often, as it was bought by AOL and I'm not sure how to prevent it installing any aol-related junk on my machines.

nick, if you've got any advice on installing netscape without problems on OS X, (G4, G5 and intel core machines) I'd enjoy hearing it.

Aww

Oh well.

Can we at least PLEASE have the width of the reply box fixed by making the size dynamic or whatever?

as you can see, I'm missing out on some of the buttons...

Add iframe { width: 720px !important;} in your styles...
Where it has 720 (720px is a size that looks ok on my screen), put in whatever width you want. Auto or 100% might work there too...

Chat and the new reply interface both seem to use a Java plugin (on WinXP you'll see the Java coffee cup icon in the taskbar.)
So your browser should support Java plugins for these features to work correctly. See java website for more details.

As for a browser, I'd suggest going with Firefox. I think it runs off of gecko or whatever the mosaic based browser is called. It comes from an open source build that shares common roots with Netscape. So it's similar, but without the unwanted baggage.

Oh and btw I AM using FireFox. And.. I don't see the coffee cup in my taskbar when browsing Rosity. I know where it should be and all, but it's not triggered by the replybox at least. And I don't use the chat.
