Subject: Beahavior on a surface replicator

Hi! I'm trying to animate the debris field around a planet, i.e. Saturn's rings, for a farily close-up fly through. I made half a dozen simple asteroids and put various spin behaviors on them. I then added a Surface Replicator to my scene and used a ring built in the Spline modeller as the source object (not a torus, more like a really thin washer), and added the asteroids to the surface replicator. Right now I've got about 10,000 tumbling asteroids and it looks pretty cool. Problem is I want to add a spin behavior to get the whole debris field slowly rotating around the planet. I've tried putting a spin on the Surface replicator itself, tried putting the behavior on the source object of the replicator, and tried grouping the replicator, source, and planet and putting the spin on the entire group. No matter what I do, those asteroids just sit and tumble in place. Does anyone know if it is even possible to add behavious to replictor objects? C5Pro, Mac G4 dual 1.25, OS 10.3.9

Maybe the problem is "spin". Are you trying to use the "spin" modifier? Try to keyframe "rotation " of the source object around its' centered hot point.

I want to see your final movie! Sounds great. Gives me ideas for a school of fish, or flock of birds.

Never Give Up!

Yes, I was trying to use the Spin modifier (simple and easy!). I'll try and do it with a keyframe as soon as I get a chance. My Quad G5 Mac came in last night (drool), need to get that thing up and running before I get back to this little project. I'll try and post a small movie if get it to work. Thanks!
