Subject: New sort option for forum threads

StaceyG ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2006 at 6:58 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 7:21 PM

You can now choose between sorthing threads by their post date or by the newest thread / reply (post bumping) by clicking the "sort by xxx" link at the top and bottom of the thread list in a forum. You can also now choose how "mark all read" works. Just clicking "mark all read" works the same way it did yesterday and the same way it did in the old Rendo forums. However, "mark all before xx:xx read" marks the forum read since before you last entered it. That is, anything posted between the time you first showed up and the time you marked the forum read will still be unread. Thanks

That is a clever option. Maybe not as user friendly as marking threads as read, but a workable compromise between database load and ease of use. Good thinking.

Is this a permanent option or just a temporary measure? I notice that you have to click it each time you come to the forum.

Okay, now any news on the speed thing? Could it be that some of the Forums need to have the older messages (something that no one has replied to in six months) moved to an Archive Forum of the same name. I ask this, because I noticed that the bigger the forum the slower it loads.

Can you change the default to by last reply, or making it so it remembers? Each time I go back to a Forum, I need to click it again right now.

Hmmm. Mine were staying how I set them but this time I did have to re click the "last reply" link. I'll check on this. We do move any posts older than 45 days to the archives. I'll see if there is any news on the speed and let you all know. Thanks

So does this mean the stars will never work properly like forums elsewhere, & we will have to do this for ourselves manually all the time??? Very irritating if so.

Not able to see IM, where you are. Only when in gallery. Search, is gone. I like using it, instead of making new threads. Some of the things I have posted in the past, are very helpfull when searching. That is the only issues (2) I have.

I don't suppose we can get "sort by post" as a member option, to turn on all the time? Otherwise it degrades the functionality of this place having to click something to get a feature every other forum I visit has as default.

I too have to keep clicking to sort by date - very annoying

The new format seems clumsy. Hard to get used to. Slow.

I wonder if the slowness has something to do with all the little pictures, which seem unnecessary in any event. But I suspect that isnot the only problem.

mathman ( ) posted Tue, 18 April 2006 at 9:23 AM

I too would like to keep my setting on one "sort by" option.

This sticky can probably be removed from all the forums. It's about a month and a half old.

Before they made me they broke the mold!
