Ok; I’ve downloaded UV Mapper, loaded my object, and now have the two templates in bmp form.  As you can see one is the entire guitar and the other is the same guitar broken down in segments.

Can someone please give me easy to follow 1,2,3 steps or point me to a tutorial so that I might create a mat for the guitar that looks like the one bottom right?

I have Photoshop 7, but please remember I am not that versed in the tools so will have to be a bit detailed when giving directions.

Thanks much

Steel

You can go to a guitar website and find the exact make and model of Rickenbacker, then download the jpg of the guitar and cut and paste the various parts to the template.   Or you can just paint them the approximate  color.  It looks like the geometry is off on the guitar template on the right.  Did you use UV Mapper Pro with the texture checker to make sure the objects on the template were proportioned correctly?  Or are you using UV Mapper Classic?

Anyways, he/she should select parts one by one, by name, and map them separately. And that guitar is weird, yeah. Why would body be in several pieces? I mean, just the body itself, not separate pick-guard or pickups. Plus, the guitar's mapped from its position in Poser, not from a level position in a modelling program. Painting will be very difficult this way.

Yes, that is correct.   I think the body could be mapped better though.   Especially in UV Mapper Pro.
