Subject: Ignoring Apollo Maximus

It seems strange that so many folks who design Clothes and Props and Hair are not including ApolloMaximus.........   I would love to know why?   Everything seems geared for the "darling" DAZ figures.  Do these designers work for DAZ?????

Xena ( ) posted Tue, 18 April 2006 at 6:45 PM

No, we don't 'work' for Daz. Lots of us sell there, but we sell in other places as well.

The majority of modellers make things for the female figures. It's not just Apollo, but most males that don't get attention. For me personally, there are no extra incentives (it's not easier, the sales aren't higher, etc) to model for Apollo, so I don't.

So I guess I will not be buying your products......

I would like to see more clothes, textures, etc. for Apollo Max. Kyoji as well. They're both criminally underused.

I guess not.

Xena you have 7 male packages for Daz figures at Daz. and about 12 male packages at Poserpros.  I like your dark fantasy style and have bought several of your products.  Need insentive?  How about people like me that know and like your style and are ichin for ApolloMax items?

A whole open market for clothing makers and nuttin happening so many merchants playing it safe now really quite a shame.  I understand about time to produce a product and return investment, however if one never produces can't really say there is not a market for it, most ApoloMax users are just waiting for stuff to show.

I'd like to see somebody making clothes for Apollo simply because i'm tired of seeing naked renders of him. If the poor guy could talk he'd probably say he wanted some too. If I had one that small i'd want to keep it covered up :)

I can't speak for Xena or any other merchant but I do know you have to love what your doing  to get this stuff made. Its not just about the money and maybe they just don't like the figure. Personally i'd rather see more support for Koji.

carodan ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 6:08 PM

Yes, more clothes for Apollo - PLEASE!! More everything in fact.

I have money that just isn't going to be spent on a Mil figure - they just don't hack it for me, not versatile enough.

I second the sentiments of carodan.   My money is not going to be spent on supporting the gen3 DAZ figures anymore.  I don't think a lot of merchants are realizing that even doing a few products for Apollo will build a clientelle that will expand to their more mainstream (DAZ) products.  Sale figures are usually an indicator of support in general.  If there is not a variety of products for a particular figure, the few products that are available will generally not sell well.  But it's sad to sabotage the market before its even explored...

I can fully understand Xena. There are indeed no incentives for a modeller or texturer (like me) to make any more stuff for Apollo. Thankfully the DAZ males get some (small) attention and are inexpensive that more people can play with them. Apollo never was a real competitive and those few owners can't pay the effort and work for a supporting product. It's that simple.

Hilarious.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 9:59 PM

JPeter, I completely understand your point of view.  However, there are other content providers who are practically banging out a new V3 texture every week.  They would not be taking too much of a hit for devoting some time to another figure such as Apollo, Dina, or Elle.  In fact, any support they offer for those figures would give them virtually a monopoly and an area to earn money where they are not in such stiff competition with other DAZ supporters.  The number of people who are turned off by the DAZ figures (even though they are good figures) is steadily increasing.  There are a lot of opportunities for content providers that really aren't being fully realized.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 10:10 PM

I think one reason they are banging out a new texture every week is that they are using the same merchant resource as a base and adding a couple of details and selling it. There really isn't any kit like that for Apollo yet and I hate the way people use them. I use them now and then but in a totally different way than many people seem to, it seems.

I hope time  will prove this kind of perspective to be flawed. Apollo suits my needs very well apart from the lack of content support. A female figure of similar design and functionality would be in my cart on day one of its release.

And the maths of his initial cost seems to me to compare very well to other figures (which all require additional morphs and texture support, even if their base meshes are free). Added to which Apollo is so much more versatile than other figures IMO - you really get the potential of a multitude of figures in one package, from a baby to a boy to an old man.

Daz does seem to have a tight grip over the Poser marketplace for a number of reasons, but not all of them to do with the laws of supply and demand from what I can make out (although I have only been a Poser user for a very short time so I am bound to acknowledge the experience of those who have been around for a lot longer ).

Things can change in any marketplace, often quite rapidly and in unexpected directions. But they never change without some risk, and not without a good degree of innovation.

Still, I do understand the certainty of bills needing to be paid, and the security that established business strategies and practices offer.

If I had more time, I'd most definately make more stuff for the guys. I'm working on a male outfit right now funnily enough - although it's for Hiro - and no it's not another skirt ;P. But male stuff doesn't ever pay the rent (keeps me in chocolate though LOL) so it's always down lower on my list of priorities.
