I didn't even know you could use Photoshop plugins with Bryce

I really don't know about 5.5 but as of Corel Bryce 5 the only filters that work were created for PShop 5 or earlier.

Quote - What's a plugin ?

It's a little plastic doodad that you plug into an outlet and the electrical current warms a scented gel (sometimes oil) releasing a pleasant smell into the air. My favorite is Hawaiian Breeze.

Dan, Thanks I wondered why some worked and some didn't.

Pumeco, anywhere you can load a picture (the texture editor) There's a little dropdown arrow next to the thumbnail, if you click on it, you'll get a dropdown of the filters available which you can apply to the image right from Bryce.

Dan, in 5.5 some later filters work too. Alien Skin Eye Candy Texture and Nature (ECT and ECN 5) work. Then Xenofex 2.12. Flaming Pear India Ink works. I still haven't got my various filters installed, but I suspect the Flaming Pear free plugins might work. Of Photoshop 7 native filters, only Blur (Gaussian and Smart blur) and Sharpen (Unsharp mask only) worked. Other blur and Sharpen filters weren't present in the menu. The other filters refused to work, while Render -> Clouds crashed Bryce. And a photographic filter I have, Panopticum Lens Pro, caused Bryce to simply disappear. IE, to crash, but without the error report and stuff.

I think it was the clouds filter that I tried 2nd or 3rd and after the crash I just stopped trying to use filters inside bryce altogether.

I've seen Bryce just vanish before, it's rather disconcerting.

pumecobann ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 5:10 PM

Cheers xenic.

I always thought those plugin arrows were designed for future expansion of some sort - and they'd just let it go to waste - lol

I don't know much about Photoshop plugins in a technical sense.  I know how to use them in Photoshop - but I've not got a clue how to access those features from Bryce.

Hint Hint Hint.

The same.

If they don't crash bryce you can just run the plugin by selecting it's name from the list. You might have to tell Bryce where to find them first though. Not real useful since they're teeny tiny little thumbnails you're looking at. But there may be uses for it sometimes. Course if you don't have an image program that can use the plug-ins much more effectivly, why would you have the plugins at all?

pumecobann ( ) posted Fri, 21 April 2006 at 5:10 AM · edited Fri, 21 April 2006 at 5:24 AM

If I select a plugins folder nothing comes up (I use PhotoshopElements4).

Anyway, no prob's - it does seem to be quite a pointless addition.  They'd have been better off allowing you to process the entire render with the plugins as opposed to just the mat's.

Plugins are fun to play with in the terrain editor. I store these plugins(mostly simple freebies) in a separate folder on my desktop and put the file MSVCRT 10.DLL in the same folder. You can google for this file. It seems that Bryce need it to find the plugins (at least in the terrain editor and i dont know why, it's maybe my OLD computer :)    "Sophie"

Thanks Sophie - I'll have to try that :-)

I hope it works for you Len, please tell me.   "Sophie"                :thumbupboth:

pumecobann ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 6:56 AM

Sophie, I'm sorry to say it won't work

I'm assuming the filters that came with Photoshop, are plugins.  If they're not, then maybe that's why nothing is getting listed...weird.

I've not had Photoshop for long, and haven't got round to buying any additional plugins yet.
So, there's always the possibility it would list seperately purchased plugins.

Thanks for the tip though.

Hi Len. Have you tried the Filter Factory plugins ? There are ZILLIONS of them (thepluginsite.com) They are free and you dont need Photoshop installed to use them in Bryce. Eye Candy works fine too (Not free though) If you have an old copy of photoshop laying around you can try the file plugin.DLL and put it in the same folder as i mentioned earlier. I think this file is copyrighted by Adobe!! It works fine for me.   😕😕😕        Good Luck.     "Sophie"
