Subject: Photoshop CS2 & Wacom Tablet using scatter

mysticwinter ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 11:14 PM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 4:13 AM

Anyone else having trouble with Photoshop freezing up when trying to use your wacom tablet and scatter?   I've done a little searching at both sites, couldn't find anything that addressed this problem.

TIA

Mystic

I'm not familiar with scatter. What is that?

mysticwinter ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 11:39 PM

Using your photoshop brushes,  you have scattering as a option.

aprilgem ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 12:16 AM

Ah, that's right, thanks. That's a PS7 and up feature, and I mostly use PS6. I don't remember having that same problem with scatter the times I've used 7, though; then again, I used fairly simple brush shapes -- grass, leaves, flowers, etc. Is the brush you're using really complex, with a lot of detail? Have you allocated plenty of memory for Photoshop? Are you working with really huge Photoshop files?

mysticwinter ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 6:19 AM

Yes to all.   I can use it fine with the mouse, just not with the Wacom tablet.  grrrrrr

tantarus ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 7:41 AM

Are all other dynamics working OK. I dont think that memory is big isue when working with brushes :)

no problem with any of the dynamics..  Just when using the scattering for the brushes with my wacom tablet that photoshop freezes..   I can use it no problem with the mouse.

I'm starting to think maybe I'm the only one with this problem.  :(

tantarus ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 7:55 AM

Than Wacom is the problem. Try to search the faq at Wacom site maybe someone else have identical or similar problem :)

Hello mysticwinter!

I am a MAC and PC user.. I use Photoshop CS2 and CS2 ME edition.. And never faced that issue or it came to a freezing point..

Humm... I wonder how many fonts are installed on your OS?

How many brushes are installed under your Photoshop?

How many filters/plugins are installed under your Photoshop Plug-ins/ directory?

Those questions are asked just ot inform you or many others, it can casue photoshop not only to freeze tho.. But it can crash it totally!

I use over 50,000 TTF & Adobe Fonts on my workstation either MAC or PC..

*Those fonts are located on a totally separate folder on a slave empty drive. And i use one of the best fonts managers in the market. All of those fonts are loaded in that prog. If i want to add and or use one of them all i have to do is activate that font and it will show automaticaly in the used application..

I also have more then 3 full DVDs full of brushes and shapes.. If i want to use them i use them directly from there.. I never install my brushes or shapes in the Photoshop folders..

And about the filters and plugins. Adobe Photoshop CS and CS2 has a problem tho.. it is not like 7.0 or 7.5 versions.. They load faster then the light no matter what you have installed from filters or plugins. And to avoid that issue.. You have to get your MAX high quality super computer.

*Means: I am using 16GB PC-3200 on dual AMD X2 4800+ (IT IS A WORKSTATION) with dual X1900XLX ATI 512MB Cards..

That reduced the lagging problems and the chopping/freeze upto 90%.

So try this:

1- Reduce your fonts if they are over 500

2- Remove all your brushes and shapes to totally different folder and load them manually

3- Reduce your filters/plugins as much as posible

4- HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!! : Before doing all the above.. try this

load your adobe photoshop program, and when it is 100% loaded. Hit (CTRL+SHIFT+Esc) or (CTRL+ALT+DEL)  and when your task manager popsup! goto the processes you will find that adobe phosohop has 4 tasks there...  Two of them are the AdobeClean00000000.somthing

Out of those four tasks, end three of them and leave only the AdobePhotoshopCS.exe running.. That will not harm you and or your pc or will not effect your Program.. If that won't help..

Then try the above method.. And hopefully it will work and help tho..

Thanks and best regards

Do you also use a Wacom Tablet nattarious? The question was about the scatter dynamics of the brush while using a Wacom Tablet.  "Just when using the scattering for the brushes with my wacom tablet that photoshop freezes .. I can use it no problem with the mouse."

Details

– You use a Wacom tablet.

– If you move the cursor off Photoshop when the brush is unresponsive, the outline of the brush shape displays next to the cursor.

– You selected Scattering and Smoothing for your brush.

Solution: Deselect the Scattering and Smoothing options.

Adobe is working to fix this issue. The most recent Wacom drivers (version 4.8.7-2) do not solve the problem.

Yes sometimes i do and i use the new: Intuos3 12x19 i guess you know it tho.. and have no problems my friend :)

To be honest! i've seen alot of threads about many different isssues here on this forums specially with CS or CS2.. But since it came out.. never faced any of those problems..

When i installed it first time with the drivers.. Never reinstalled it again! and when i use it.. It never lags or freeze :( So i really don't know what to tell anymore..

Could it be the harware it self! Have you tryed to use it with adobe elements? or Corel Painter for example to see if it will freeze!

Regards

I'm using the Intuos3 9x12..

Not using a Mac.   PC

Have less than 300 fonts, I load special fonts only as needed.  I do have a ton of brushes, which I will remove and load as needed, also have a lot of filters, I will clean some of the less used ones out.

Thanks for all the support and tips..

okay, I did this

load your adobe photoshop program, and when it is 100% loaded. Hit (CTRL+SHIFT+Esc) or (CTRL+ALT+DEL)  and when your task manager popsup! goto the processes you will find that adobe phosohop has 4 tasks there...  Two of them are the AdobeClean00000000.somthing

and I managed to finish painting the head of my critter with no freezing!!  now how do I make these things stop loading/running..   well no matters, I'll just make it a habbit to end those things...

Thanks Much!

nattarious ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 5:38 PM

See!! Am happy that you were able to continue work.. About those three processes i mentioned there is no way to disable them!

You have to stop them manually everytime.. you start your Photoshop CS/CS2 And..

They will fix this in the next comming soon CS3 ;) So! tell me now my friend.. Is it working after following this method! Cause i am pretty much sure that no one or at least no alot of others who use these equipments know how to fix that issue!

Oh well.. here is an advice.. I do not know if you have the original copy of Adobe Photoshop 7 or no.. But if you will install Photoshop 7 additional to the CS series you have.. I can guarantee you that it won't freeze ;) And that is what i do.. No filters or anything else installed.. Just using the 7.xx version for the WACOM TABLET Machine.. When you done with your work.. Continue with the CSx series..

Thanks again and much luck my friend and have a wonderful day
