Subject: Threads with more than 9 pages.

nruddock ( ) posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 4:47 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 7:32 AM

You might want to take a look at the code that generates the page numbers on the forum pages.

The Darkwingzero... thread just went to it's 10th page, but the forum entry shows "[ Goto Page: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 ... ]".
All the long threads in the developers forum ("Anime and Manga Developers' Guild Forum Chapter nn") show the same problem.

Other forums drop the middle page links and show something like the first and last 3 or 4 page numbers.

Interesting...I just looked at the thread you linked and it's only 8 pages long for me.

What do you have your "Messages per thread page" number set to in your options?  Mine is set at the maximum 30.

I frequently get spurious page counts on those long threads. when I click on the last link (5,6, or whatever), the page is often blank.

Paging is determined by how many messages you show per page. On the forum display, we stop showing links to internal thread pages after page 9 simply because it would eventually take us onto the next line. If you want to go to page 10, just click page 9 and from there click page 10.

I am finding that the number of pages I see as I look at the thread list, doesn't match the number of pages of the thread itself.  I'm finding that the thread list number is showing 1 page more than the thread itself has once you open it up.   IE:  Thread list shows 5 pages, while the thread itself has 4 pages....and if you click  "page 5" from the thread list, that the page just contains a reply window.

When most people visit a thread they either want to go to the first page or the last page, so why not do as nruddock suggests and just about every other site does and list the first 3 pages and the last 3?

Acadia, I am looking into this issue and will get back to you about it. Nicholas

Yes you can't just go straight to the last page on a long thread from the forum entry, you have to go to the last one shown, then click on the ">>" symbol.

Any progress with this issue.
Following long threads gets a little tedious when you have to select page 9 and then another page.
It's even more annoying when a thread goes over 13 pages.

I see "last" has now appeared as an option on long threads.

Thank you for making the effort
