Subject: Tutorials on creating bones and/or creating morphs

Pandorian ( ) posted Tue, 25 April 2006 at 9:55 AM · edited Tue, 28 January 2025 at 4:57 PM

Does anyone know of any good (basic) tutorials on how to create bones (or add morphs) for an object imported from LW into Poser? I've been experimenting with LW to create props for use in Poser and while I'm still a big newbie to LW, I created a very basic wrestling ring and want to be able to make the ropes move, bend and sway. Not entirely sure if its boning I need to do or actually add morphs? Either way, can someone point me in the right direction as to what tutorials would benefit me and what concepts I should apply (boning/morphing) in order to do this? Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with LW so this may not apply...but...

Export the ring out of poser as an OBJ file and import that into LW,

Grab in the modelling area the verts on the ropes (I would use a soft selection option) and bend the ropes back a bit on one side.  Export this as an OBJ and then

Fouble click on the ring in the poser authouring environment and in the properties window click add morph target.  Then navigate to the ring that you morhed and saved from LW and add it.

Do the same for all the ring sides and variations of the morph targets that you would like to create.

This could prob be also done useing Poser magnets right in poser.

Thanks odeathoflife.  I tried it and while it seems to work, when I apply the morph, the ring posts also move with the ropes.  I'm pretty sure it's something "I" did probably in designing the ring in LW (still a newbie with LW), any ideas what I can do to "isolate" the movement only to the ropes?

Thanks again.

Isolate the ropes. Use the grouping tool to assign the ropes their own groups (I'd do one for each of the 4 sides of the ring). Then you can export just the ropes, morph them, import the new object as a morph and call it a day. Just be sure not to move the object itself or it's anchors (the parts connected to the ring posts) as that would mess things up or ruin the effect.

What do you do when you get an error message which reads:

"Target Geometries Has Wrong Number Of Vertices" after I try to add the morphs into Poser?

Okay, I guess you can disregard the previous message as I've gotten past that point already.  What I'd like to know is where exactly in Poser do the MORPHS I import go?  I was looking for them so I could zip up the ring I made complete with the morphs, but I couldn't find them.  I figured it "might" have been incorporated into the PP2 file itself, so I zipped that up by itself, only when I unzipped it into  P6, it loaded fine, but without any of the morphs I had manualy loaded before.

The morphs go on whatever part of the object you've imported them into unless it's a full body morph.

I understand that, however, what I wanted to know was is there any other file I should look for when gathering all these files for "zipping" (IE, my wrestingly PP2 I created which is in the PROPS folder).  Is there any other folder that would "house" these morphs?  The reason I'm asking is, as I stated above, I imported the morphs successfully, however after I zip-up all the necessary files with winzip (at least I'm thinking I'm grabbing all the necessary files), and then I unzip them into my Poser on my other computer, the wrestling ring loads fine, except there are no morphs attached to it.

Am I missing a step here or do I have to "always" "manually" re-install these morphs each time I install the wrestling  ring into Poser?

They aren't held in seperate files.  Did you save the version with the morphs to your character or prop folder?  If not, then you should and then zip up the one with the morphs.

Teyon, looks like I had zipped up the files "before" re-saving my wrestling PP2 with the newly loaded morphs.  Sometimes it's the most obvious errors that are hardest to remedy.  Thanks for pointing that out Teyon, I really appreciate it.
