Anybody find themselfs shoting graffiti art just for fun or your not sure if it's gallery suited?

Found this beauty today on a eletrical transformer in the suburbs.

I do not remember of seeing any gaffiti posted in the gallery recently.
If it is suited or not ... well ... WHY NOT ?

I do appreciate your today's graffiti capture !

Sometimes I have, but I figure taking photos of someone other than natures art is just not what I like.
Sure it is nice to show some of it, but only once in a blue moon.
But I do like the way that one looks you have.

Thank-You both,😄

I actually had to turn around and go back to shot this, just caught it out of the corner of my eye while driving down the street.

If I see it and like it and have my cam, I certainly would. Nice find!

Are you taking the photo to show YOUR artistic ability or to showcase that graffiti artist's?

Simon_P ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 7:48 PM

Yeh that is a great piece of art.

I have done some of this with photography; I guess this will always be subjective!

I entered a shot into a competition, the judge said that it was just an image of someone else’s work, in the same competition, one of my prints came first (a statue) also someone else’s work, funny how things are perceived.

For a further twist, it could be said that a landscape is natures work.

For me it’s not just about what you photograph its how it is photographed.

Usually when photographing street art I try to find out who it belongs to (not always possible) and ask then if they mind me capturing it, I usually offer them a print as a thank you.

I agree with Simon. It is an art from who is holding a camera and capture a grafitty made by someone else.   It is just an object what catch you and feel you have take a picture of it. Not different than capturing a kitty sleeping.

Since we are talking about street art you might want to have a look at this, some of this stuff is superb.

isn't everything we capture with a camera...someone ELSES work in a sense?!?!   Unless YOU actually CREATED the subject matter  you're shooting that is.

Photography is  all about capturing a moment or creating a visual document of a time or place.  Graffiti can be considered modern  Hieroglyphics or Cave art in ways.  Its a way of communicating or expressing ones self....its also used to mark territory.  There's a thread over in the copyright forum debating if pics of graffiti could actually be sold.  Since most of the time, it IS an illegal activity, you probably wouldn't get an artist fighting for infringement over it!

A camera enables us all to peer through each others eyes,  see the world from another view. Y'know,  I think Simon hit the nail of the head when he said this is a SUBJECTIVE matter.

I also have to echo Kort's statement and I'll add if something GRABS your attention or envokes something in ya....go for it and take the pic.

On some of my lunchtime walks....I pass this steam gauging station along the walkpath, so I took a picture of it.  Yeah...Nothing special...just somethin'  I though was interesting.
