in some genre (e.g. anime), the toon figures and toon props are placed against a rendered (non-toon) background.

DAZ 3D have a bunch of stuff, mostly associated with their character, The GIRL. Buildings, that sort of thing. Not strongly toonish, perhaps. There's also the Creepy Clown page which has a lot of useful stuff, some of it very usable in non-toon renders too.

3D Universe has a discussion thread going on right now about a Toon Town that they are creating. They're asking for suggestions as to what to build.

It's just what you're looking for.

But, wait! There's more!

Sam's 3D had some "Toon Town" backgrounds for their cyclorama-style backdrop, called "UoRama". The backgrounds appear to be based on the "Mickey's Toon Town" at Disneyland/Disneyworld.

It was on their CD, which is no longer available, but since it was originally a freebie, you might try emailing them to obtain it.

Wow! I didn't know about this stuff. An alternative to toon props and backgrounds is just changing your rendering style to cartoon and anime shaders. That will keep everything a little more stylistically similar. RDNA and Content Paradise have a cool comic book shader set. bB

I wish someone would do some japanime style backgrounds. I have the ones in this thread and they're great but they don't really work with anime styles.

Heck I wish someone would just release some generic japanese backgrounds... streets, parks with cherry trees and the like...

Please excuse the blatant self promotion, but these may be of interest to some: http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?vendor=58780

I also have some celshaded anime backgrounds available in the freestuff as well.

Stay Focused.
