Hi. Does anyone happen to know how to clear the list of brushes that appears when you click on the small arrow in the top bar's Brush controls? Mine is full of brushes that I no longer have (they've been moved completely out of the Photoshop directory), and I'd really like to only have the brushes listed that I actually have in the /Brushes folder. I'm using Photoshop 7. Thanks, SnowS

Press F5 to open brushes palette and click on little triangle, in drop down menu click on reset brushes and that will get you back to default state. Then you can load youre wanted custom brushes again :)

Thank you, but that wasn't quite what I was asking. I want to clear the text list of brushes that scrolls out to the right of the Reset Brushes command you mentioned. If I still haven't explained it well, I'll try to take a screen capture and post it. SnowS

You can just right click on the brushes & delete them one at a time.  Or click the arrow (top right) & open the preset manager.  Hold the shift key & you can delete several brushes at a time.

Sometimes the thumbs of brushes get stock in PS7 tho.. but that is a very rare situation.. in fact that is my third time to hear it in my whole life..

The best thing to do is the following..

*Since you have the Photoshop 7.0 So i guess that you have the CD right! assuming that you have the CD then do this:

1-Goto your Adobe/Photoshop 7 folder/presets/
2-Cut the brushes folder totally from there and paste it somewhere else.. lets say on your desktop.
3-Start your photoshop 7.. Now it should work normally but there will be no brushes at all! right!
4-Close the application (PHOTOSHOP 7)
5-Re-install Photoshop 7.. (Don't worry.. All your setting will remain the same) but it will add the new default brushes folder..
6-You are done!!

Now here is an advice.. All of your brushes should be saved to totally different folder.. it would be better on another drive if you are able to.. and just load them manually from there..  when you click the brush icones on the left tools panel.. On your image right click and choose replace brushes and then it will ask you to point them (BROWSE) choose the one you want..

And when you done with it.. Again right click and reset to default.

If you are talking about the text list at the bottom of the brush option menu, they are all the .abr file brush sets found in adobe photoshop PresetsBrushes and also the subdirectory PresetsBrushesAdobe Photoshop Only. Only those sets should be showing at bottom of that drop down brush options menu. Look in both folders. Reinstalling software is the very last resort.

Is totally right.. And that is what i meant in my post..  But what i meant by re-installing.. That doesn't mean un-install and re-install from the very biggining tho.. 

DONT UN-INSTALL THE SOFTWARE.. Just over write the installation following the previous steps.. and that is why i asked you to cut and paste that BRUSHES folder to some where else :)

I forgot to add. The list starts at the bottom of the menu but if a bunch of .abr files were either created or dumped into either of those folder, it will create a 2nd and 3rd column etc. Sort of like if you have a lot of Plug-Ins. If you go to Help > About Plug-Ins (and I have a lot) the columns fill up my entire screen and still doesn't show them all.  :rolleyes:

Thank you for the information. I knew that reinstalling the software would clear the list (as I've reinstalled it several times in the last year), I was just hoping there would be a text file I could edit or something to get rid of them all. I appreciate your help though! You can see why I'd like to reduce this list, LOL. ;) Oh also, do you happen to know if I'll have to reinstall the plugins if I reinstall (not uninstall) Photoshop again? SnowS

Well.. I could be wrong again... but if they're only in the brush menu & not the pallette, I'd think all you need to do is go to your Adobe/Photoshop7/Presets/Brushes  files & delete the ones you don't want.. Or if you're a pack rat like me & think you might need them again, make a new folder somewhere else  & drop them into it.  

If you've already deleted them from the file system & they're still showing up in the menu, I'd guess you need to reinstall PS. Don't know about the plug ins tho'.  The only reinstalls I've done was after PC formats.

Just don't un-install the Photoshop7 Program..  here you go from the very beginning:

1-Goto your Adobe/Photoshop 7 folder/presets/
2-Right click on the Brushes folder and Cut the folder totally from there and Paste it somewhere else.. lets say on your desktop.
3-Start your photoshop 7.. Now it should work normally but there will be no brushes at all! right!
4-Close the application (PHOTOSHOP 7)
5-Re-install Photoshop 7.. DONT UN-INSTALL IT!! JUST OVERWRITE IT and make sure it is in the same directory, location and folder.(Don't worry.. All your setting will remain the same) but it will add the new default brushes folder..
6-You are done!!

That is the fastest way and easiest.. I have nothing else to say.. Thank you and have a nice day..

Nattarious, I did see your post, thank you very much. I know not to uninstall Photoshop, I was just asking if overwriting it will disrupt any plugins. Sorry if I sounded like I didn't understand you. SnowS
