Check out the thread by lululee titled Need advice on building a new system.
There's some good advice there on building a good system that will handle just about any program you put on it, including Poser.
That said, maximize your memory!

My wife and I have finally settled down into a semi-permanent lifestyle, and I'm looking for a new computer to use for modelling and rendering. I mostly use Silo for modelling, and Poser 6 for everything else. My old laptop is really starting to crap out on me. It renders slowly, and grinds to a halt or even crashes when calculating dynamics, so I want to find a decent machine, reasonably priced and not necessarily top-shelf, that can handle these functions. My problem is, I don't really know what kinds of features to look for in a new computer. Can anyone give me an idea of what features I should be looking for to maximize my purchase, or point me in the direction of a good resource?
