Subject: Miki - hands and feet too large

mysticwinter ( ) posted Tue, 09 May 2006 at 4:05 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 8:09 PM

I like Miki, but I don't use her because her hands and feet are just so large.. am I missing something in the dials to make them smaller?  has anyone created a morph to make them smaller?

Morgano ( ) posted Tue, 09 May 2006 at 5:48 PM

Isn't there a scale dial for each hand (although that will require each joint to be scaled individually)?

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Tue, 09 May 2006 at 6:28 PM

the fore-arms are also wacky IMVHO. maybe somebody has a dial for them, too.

mysticwinter ( ) posted Tue, 09 May 2006 at 6:36 PM

yhea...   I've played with the scale dial...  just can't seem to get it to look right..

SP3 also has gargantuan sized feet. I swear she looks about 5 feet tall with size 13 feet!!!

I didn't buy Miki because of that problem.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 10 May 2006 at 1:09 PM

I made a HandsSmall morph for Miki once. Unfortunately it messed up the Joint parameters... so... I don't really know how to share it (it exista at the moment as a special, Blacksmith generated CR2, not really a morph...)

oooooh...   if you figure out how to save it out as a morph or something and share.. I would LOVE to have it..    I admit, there are a couple of add-on character sets I would like to buy, but won't only because of the hands and feet..

Thanks

I wish I had read this before I spent $68 on Miki and Miki accessories.

arcady ( ) posted Thu, 11 May 2006 at 4:09 AM

This is an odd error... Women, and especially Asian women, have notably small hands and feet comparred to men. I think everybody knows this - so you have to wonder what was going on. It is common in comics and animation to make heads disproportionately large as a visual trick to make them seem normal, but this is not a head, and Miki is not intended for 'toon' renders... can somebody post some screenshots so we can see if we agree with this conclusion. Not website promo shots from CP that might have just been poorly rendered, but actual renders of your own. Might be nice to see a bit of that.

Here's a pic of miki with my HandsSmall morph applied. But as I said, it only works (at the moment) as long as you don't try to bend her fingers, then it's all fubar'ed...

...and here she is with her hands in the default size.

Personally I don't think they're so gigantic, but...

:scared: OMG!  What the hell is wrong with her forearms?  Are those tumors next to her elbows?  Human-beings do NOT have forearms like that!   The hideous forearms really distracted me from her 'freak' hands.

well, from the pics above i think she also has a big head or do i need to put on my glasses?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 11 May 2006 at 9:45 AM

Actually I think her head is the right size. We're just to used to V3 and M3 who actually have very SMALL heads...

And yes, there's something wonky with her forearms. Could be cause by this pose though (I'm in the middle of a render so I can't do one with her arms in another pose right now)

good point ernyoka. have always used V3 and occassionally aiko so perhpaps that is why i thought her head is kinda big

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 11 May 2006 at 12:56 PM

yeah, those fore-arms are bizarre - reminiscent of the cartoon character "pop-eye" the head is also huge, but then children have large heads in proportion to their bodies

Miki, the daughter f Olive Oyl and Popeye!  That is so..wrong! :woot:

nakamuram ( ) posted Thu, 11 May 2006 at 8:57 PM

Trekkie,

When you posed the forearms, did you use forearm side-to-side or shoulder twist?  The former is not a natural movement -- human forearms don't move side-to-side, our shoulders twist.  This correction ususally solves the problem for DAZ Characters.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 11:53 AM

I never use Side-side on forearms. Real arms can't move sideways in the elbowjoint, so I stay away from it in Poser too. I think it was dodger who once named the side-side "ouch" on a character, and I've kept that in mind ever since :m_grin:

So I can say with certainty that this isn't what causes the problem here :o)

yes, her head is okay size wize but it is much too oval, which of course is easilly fixed with scaling i presume. Love esther

There should be 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 heads in the height of the average caucasian. East asians have slightly larger heads, even when raised in the USA and of 'American height' this seems to be true. Comics use smaller heads - often 8 3/4 (Marvel comics standard), anime uses larger heads - 4, 5, or even in 'SD' only 2. Much modern anime however, has shifted to the 8 head ratio.

Bad forearm JP's -- another reason to make me glad I didn't buy Miki.  I'm Asian, my head is large for my height, but my hands and feet are small to average.  Same with my wife who is part-Asian.

arcady ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 10:19 PM

Yeah... You "fit the profile"... So do I to an extent, and I'm only 1/4 Asian. Miki also, to me, doesn't look very Asian. She doesn't even look like a typical Japanese face. She looks about as japanese as Vicky looks Spainard - possible but abnormal for the type. Some of the face morphs for Miki however, do look 'Japanese'. But I think a talented morpher could just as easily make those shapes with Aiko, Vicky, or even David - as in, a lot of vertices had to get moved around to do it. In fact, Aiko-realistic is probably the easiest one to craft a realistic Asian out of. She looks semi-Asian already, and all you have to do is remove the 'latent toony-ness' (as oppossed to Terai Yuki, who looks ultra-anime to me - but I haven't seen many morphs of her). I've heard a lot of comments about JP problems in Miki, and I am suprised they haven't been fixed yet. You can fix them on your own most likely if you open up Poser's JP editor and know what you are doing. I'm about 'halfway there' with being able to do that sort of thing - I know how to fix minor issues, but haven't tackled anything big like this. But I suspect it is possible.

The problem is, if you fix her Joint parameters too radically, you'll have to fix all her clothes too. Which, I suppose, is why nothing of the sort has happened.

Miki has, as the only Poser character so far, a proper epicanthal fold. Aiko does not.

Can't you just 'paste forward' the new jointing? I mean, I do that all the time in working with Wardrobe Wizard...
