THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Wait for Bryce 5 or get World builder 3.0?

Thanks to a yuppie dialing her cell phone instead of driving her SUV I got rear ended (A year ago torn acl left knee and broken right shin) Well needless to say money will be coming in! I was just wondering Should I wait for Bryce or get World Builder 3.0 it seems to have a lot of high end features. I just don't know, wait or not? The World Builder seems a lot more professional and the gallery on their website looks great. Any input would be great.

Both are good and u r right about world builders "high-end" features, however an experienced Bryce user could probably make Bryce Perform a lot of the functions that WB does anyway... I guess it depends on what u want to do... Bryce is undeniably smooth, artistic, free-flowing and inspirational to use once u get the hang of it and while u get the hang of it...(not to mention addictive) so it would come down to what kind of output u want, technicaly accurate kinda output from a program with a "technical"-type learning curve, or artistic type stuff with an artists feel type learning curve...I could ramble on about Bryce 4 hours so maybe I'm a little bias, but I think what I have said is fairly close to the reality of the situation, I hope this helps...:)

Actually, bryce 3 is available from ZDNet now. If you're in the learning stage of the program, bryce 3d is fine to start with. It will keep you busy until 5 is out.

If you have the cash, I would get both. There is NO such thing as "too many apps." If you are doing "nature" type stuff, WB seems to have a much better grasp on Botanicals. Bryce, without plugins like TreeDruid, is pretty bad at it. Like everyone else said, Bryce is pretty easy to get the hang of if you have patience. It does, however, have some severe setbacks. (Rob)

Another app to list in the mix is Vue D', now on the April CD for 3D World Mag, it's version 2.0, with a special upgrade offer to 3.x (which supports Win2k & more file formats).

Ditto to what Flick said Hawkfyr

World Builder if you have Lightwave, It works as a plugin to LW. The biggest drawback is Bryces inability to export anything but terrains. Hopefully Bryce 5 will have full export functionality. They are going to release a new version of world builder that is said to be realy improved as well.

Thanks everyone. I will definetly wait to see what Bryce 5 has to offer (I feel its price is going to go up significantly) so if it can do things like animate grass and water and work like a plugin like world builder I might get it but if not I thing I'll start using a new terrain program probably world builder.
