Subject: Haaaalp! Just got Poser 6, worked, got SR2, and now crashes on start-up

agate88 ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 10:41 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 7:57 PM

I finally upgraded to Poser 6, and it worked after install.  Went to curiouslabs and saw there was an update, so installed the SR2.

Now it crashes on the start-up screen, every time.

I have an Nvidia GE440 (or something like that), and updated the driver as suggested.  Tried tweaking down the acceleration, and even tried turning the acceleration off.  Nothing works.  About the only thing that isn't up to date is that I don't have XP SR2 on my PC, still on SR1.

Anyone have any solutions?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have Quicktime 7 installed?  After I installed QT 7, my P6 would shutdown at the startup screen, everytime.  That was the only thing I had  changed in my system. After reading a thread here, I uninstalled QT 7, and all is well.

There is a thread about 4 pages back on this (don't know what the search term might be). That's what saved me....

Don't know if QT is your problem but it is an issue for some no question. I don't have it any more and never will while I run Poser!

I will try uninstalling quicktime.  That's annoying because I use it a fair amount to be sure.

But if it works, I will give it a shot.

By the way, does this mean I won't be able to export animations from Poser 6 as a Quicktime?

Just try it first, It might not be that. It has been for others including myself but not everyone!

One of those great little Poser quirks that pops up every now and then!!!

I had QT 6 installed with P6 without a problem. Then after a PC crash I had to reinstall Windows, Poser, etc., and that's why I installed QT 7, and encountered the problem. So if you've got an old QT 6 installer, that would be cool.  Apple probably doesn't have make it available, but we might be able to find it bundled with software on some CD laying around...

Well, so far it hasn't worked.  I uninstalled QT restarted, and same thing.  Also tried tweaking down the hardware acceleration, again, no luck.

Would it do any good to try reninstalling Poser 6 and the SR2?

I am running out of ideas.

You might want to try deleting your preset preferences first from your P6 folder, not as hard as it sounds there is instructions on CL's web site for doing this. Preferences when corrupted can have strange effects.

If you haven't done much in the way of reorganizing your P6 runtimes and such then a clean install might work, make sure you uninstall "everything" first [important]. You can back up the runtime if you like, that won't afect anything and then put it back after the reinstall.

Also I never went straight from base to SR2, I had installed SR1 first. I know SR2 is supposed to have elements of SR1 in it but maybe not all, just a thought!

Put SR1 in first and then run SR2, you never know, it can be a strange beast at times.

Just for your info, if you do get it to run, it is a far more stable piece of kit after SR2, still one or two niggles but I can live with them!

Good luck!

The path is: Poser6 knowledge base/technical issues.

There are 5 files you need to delete, don't delete more than what it says!

Instead of uninstalling quicktime, try deleting or renaming the file called ImageIO_Mac.mrw in the ImageIOPlugins drawer in the poser 6 runtime.

I might have found the problem.  I think I narrowed it down to the fact I overloaded the Download folder within the content directory.  I transferred my content from Poser 4 to this, and it was a ton of stuff, including stuff that was still compressed, templates, etc etc etc.

Clearing this folder out, and it works.

And now I am going to try to reinstall Quicktime!
