Subject: New at Carrara. Some stupid questions... sorry

Hi.

I am new at Carrara. Got use to Bryce 5, first and then to Vue (4 and 5). Just some stupid questions. Sorry.

1- Were is the "Drop to floor" key? Does Carrara have one?

2- How do I change the sky without Carrara adding a new camera and a new light?

3- I will think of something, very soon, I promise ;o)

2 -- I was not aware that changing a sky added a new camera and a new light. However, I imagine many of the library skies make use of a "sun" light, whereas the default Carrara scene uses a single "infinite" light. Basically, though, you are better off understanding the sky controls and how to custom make your own skies. 1 -- If there is a "Drop to floor" key I've never used it. You can turn on collisions (I believe they are on by default), and gently push your object down. You could even take the long way around, turn on physics, add a gravity force, then run a physics simulation. I've done that myself for an image! And then there is the question you didn't ask; Yes. You should read the manual. All of it.

I also agree with reading the manual...I spent 2 weeks reading & playing around with all the different stuff...I HIGHLY recommend to do this.

You'll typically want to delete the  "ground" anyway(it cannot be textured) & add terrains/plane or infinite plane.

If, say, your infinite plain was at "0" Z height, setting your object at the same should give similar results as the drop to floor of Poser.  I normally just move by looking as I use the universal manipulator.

You can use collision detection and move your figure down to the floor (as long as you have an object for the floor -- a plane or cube or whatever), but there is no CTL+D like in poser.

As for the sky issue, I suspect you're dragging a sky from the browser into your scene.  Those skies in the browsers are entire scenes, not just a sky preset or something.  So, if you drag a sky scene into an already existing scene, you're going to get the extra components of camera and light.  You also may well end up with a number of parameters (render settings, etc).

If you select your whole scene, then under atmosphere on the right, you can select sky or realistic sky and edit appropriately.  There are presets within the sky editors.

also, if you have the atmosphere panel open and have realistic sky selected, you can drag and drop an atmosphere into it from the browser section of the panel below the workspace window.  Mind you, not the tab that says Scenes but rather the tab that says Misc.  Select it and then you see a list of categories.  Select realistic sky.  Any of those skies can be dragged into (onto) the atmosphere panel.  No cameras or lights will be set - you will have to recheck Enable Ground to off if you want it off or if it was already off from a previous go round.

Also, it might not look like it has worked (unless you did have the enable ground off because it will be checked after the drop).  It doesn't otherwise give any indication like some drag and drop functions that show a plus sign once you arrived where you want to drop
