Subject: Transferring Body Morphs to Clothing

twajjo ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 11:12 PM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 2:30 PM

There are an awful lot of conforming clothes that have the same morphs as the figures they are intended to fit (Aiko 3, V3, Stephanie 3, M3, etc.).  Is there a utility, python script or procedure (like some trick with copy/paste) that will transfer like-named morphs from the figure to the clothes conformed to the figure (e.g., "Realistic" on Aiko 3 is set to 0.733 (meters), I'd like to set the Realistic morph on Hongyu's Soft Lingerie to 0.733, without going back and forth from the figure to the clothing for each of the 2 dozen morphs on Aiko that the Soft Lingerie supports).

There's got to be a simple way of doing this.  Heck, I'll even pay for a tool if there's one in the marketplace...

Two solutions:

PhilC's Wardrobe Wizard will make the clothes fit.  His Poser Tool Box can create the morphs.

CodeTwister's Tailor (sold a DAZ)  will copy morphs from the character to the clothes.

This is a tricky subject ... and you'll find a lot of discussion here and at other Poser sites if you search for the term "crosstalk."

There was a "bug" in Poser 4 that was later taken advantage of, which caused like-named morphs to follow each other. In other words, if Figure 1 had a chest morph named "BreastSize5" and Figure 2 had a chest morph named "BreastSize5", both would respond when one was dialed.

However, there are cases when you don't want this to happen .... for example, if you have two V3's in the scene and you don't want them to have the same body shape, you don't want them to "crosstalk" like this.  So the "bug" was addressed in Poser 5 and later.

Now, in order to force "crosstalk", you may have to intentionally put it in, and afterwardes load your figures in such a way that the clothing knows which figure it is supposed to conform to. So the typical approach is to load the figure first, and immediately afterward load the clothing and conform it. However, this doesn't work in Poser 5 and beyond unless the CR2 of the clothing is formatted correctly.

Hogsoft (maker of several Poser utilities) has a free "Crosstalker" utility on his web site that creates a Pose file that you can apply to clothing to make it work in each Poser version. At the moment, however, his site appears to be down.

twajjo ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 11:57 PM

Yeah, I've tried both of those, but I was wondering if there was a tool that would do that in Poser.

Wardrobe Wizard will conform a piece of clothing to an entirely different figure than it was originally intended.  I just want to take a piece of clothing that is intended for Aiko 3, but morph its settings to match those of, say, Rhiannon's Meghan.  The figure is the same, just the morph dials have been moved.  The clothes are for Aiko, they just need to be adjusted so that the same-named morphs are set to the same settings on the clothes as the figure.  WW appears to do this by tossing out the morphs themselves and literally adjusting the mesh of the clothing.

The Tailor may work fine, but it is done outside of Poser-- You've got to save the figure.  Fire up The Tailor, adjust the clothes, save them as a new figure, now load them up in Poser.  Why save a whole new cr2, when all I want to do is change the morph settings.

WW and The Tailor are kind of overkill in that they assume I'm trying to adjust the clothes to fit a whole new figure (in fact, WW (I'm not sure about The Tailor) completely stomps on the morph names after the transfer-- the clothes fit, but if you want the same morphs, you've got to recreate them).  I've tried this and gotten some V3 clothes to fit The Girl, but the morph dials are gone after the transfer.  I can accept this for figures that are completely different (V3 to Girl), but I'd just like all the dials that have the same name on a piece of V3 clothing to be set to the same settings as a morphed V3 figure.  Same goes for Aiko3 clothing fitting an Aiko 3 morphed figure.

The algorithm seems straight forward:

  1. Select Figure to grab morphs from.

  2. Select Clothing to copy morphs to.

  3. For each Morph in Clothing that has the same name in Figure (across each same-named body part, including "Body"), copy the figure morph setting to the clothing morph setting.

Aiko 3                                                        Soft Lingerie

Realistic------------------------------------> Realistic

Voluptuos----------------------------------> Voluptious

etc.

Ignore any morph that is not common between the two figures.

Assume that the target is a piece of clothing intended for the figure in question, just that it does not  fit.  This algorithm is NOT intended to make Aiko clothes fit V3, V3 to fit the Girl, etc.  I just want clothes that are intended to fit V3 to fit any V3 character that uses the stock V3 morphs.

I'm wondering if I should just write the python script myself.  It seems so simple, I'm wondering why it's not just an existing simple script or some kind of common knowledge...

Deecey,

Thanks.  I'll check out the Hogsoft folks.  I like their CR2 Pro fix utility.  It's great for cleaning up downloads with badly formed paths.

I'll keep my results posted...

Wardrobe Wizard works great for conforming clothes to a morphed character.  I use it all the time, mostly for Aiko to Morphed Aiko clothes fitting.

twajjo ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 12:31 AM

Then I'll try WW for same figure clothing morphs and see what I get.

Thanks, Nakamuram.

semidieu ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 5:55 AM

But there is an easy way to copy/paste the morphs if they already exist on the figure and the clothes (works on PC, but should also work on MAC with another shortcut).

Select the figure body, hit "Ctrl-c".

Select the clothe body, hit "Ctrl-v".

All the morphs value has been copied from the figure to the clothes.

WardrobeWizard is really great. And very easy to use. Load the cloth and the original figure, zero (included!) and let WW calculate. Then load the morphed (or other) character/figure, zero it and have it calculated. There are even warning messages when you do something wrong.

Sometimes, when poses are rather extreme, the cloth mesh will not exactly follow the body anymore as the bodymesh is deformed due to posing. This has nothing to do with WW. In this case, magnets can be used.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

There is a great "copy morphs" Python script somewhere that does exactly what you want, if I understand you correctly.  It does in one click what Semideiu's copy/paste method does in two clicks. Either way, I don't think it takes a special utility if the same morphs already exist in the clothing.

look in the Python Scripting Forum; about the 6th post down, by SVDL, named SpawnCharacter.PY.  Allthough not developed quite yet, this free script promises just that.  He's really got a ton planned for this script, and has been working on it for a months.  Give hime some encouragment, and tell him I sent you!

twajjo ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 4:03 PM

Semidieu:

I tried that.  Yep, I know how to copy and paste.  In fact, this was the first thing I tried even before posting.  It made sense that this should work right out of the box.

The only problem is-- it doesn't work.  I'm using Poser 6, if that makes any difference.  But I've done that.  Select morphed V3 BODY (not part), press Ctrl-C.  Select Clothing BODY (not part) and pressed Ctrl-V.  I could keep trying this, but then I'd meet the definition of insane.  The manual says that this process wil copy poses but says nothing about morphs.

Got nothing.  No morphs transferred.  Nothing is locked.  I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary from what I can tell.  Is there a setting or configuration that has to be enabled to make this possible?

I'll try the SVDL script, too.

Thanks.

You ca'nt try the script yet, it has'nt been written to do that yet, but that is where it will be updated when he's finished!

semidieu ( ) posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 7:20 AM

Just a question. Did you set the morphs in the body part or indivudually in their respective part ?

Another question: i don't own the hongyu's soft lingerie... but are the morphs located in the body part or in individual parts ?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 5:02 PM

Wouldn't "Morph Manager", available at Netherworks site and it's free, take the V3 morphs and transfer them to her clothes?

If that doesn't work then Netherworks sells a Python or something that has the sole purpose of putting figure morphs onto the figures clothes. The price is around $12-$14 I think and they are figure specific, so if you only wanted this for V3 then that's the one you buy.

Hope that helps you some, his web site is  http://www.netherworks-studios.com

Semidieu:

Sorry it took so long to get back, I'm moving my home office from my old cramped digs to a room that seems like the Astrodome in comparison.

There may be morphs by body part, too, but the ones I'm trying to copy are just on the figure body.  As the example both you and I gave, I selected the body of the figure and attempted to copy to the bodyof the clothes.  There are modified morphs on the figure body when I try the copy.

There are corresponding morphs on the body of the Hongyu Soft Lingerie.  Those clothes, by the way are just an example.  Do you know of specific V3 or A3 clohtes examples where copy/paste work?  Maybe if there were specific clothes that Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V worked on, I might be able to figure out WHY they work and others don't...

Thanks.

The Catsuit works fine for me, as most of the Morphing Clothes from DAZ.

Do you have the SR2 installed ?

twajjo ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 12:11 AM

Yes, I'll give it a try with the catsuit.  I might have to wait until tomorrow since I'm still doing the move thing.

Thanks.

Could some of this difficulty be related to FBMs?  Almost all 'morph' dials on the BODY are actually FBM dials (they aren't actually morphs, but dials that control similar morph dial settings on other body parts).  If the clothes don't have corresponding FBM master dials, then you won't get 'morphs' on the BODY, only the individual body part 'real' morph dials (as supported by the clothes) .  Not much to do about that besides editing (or possibly one of the script/software options noted if it explicitly supports this).

Attached Link: Copy Morphs script

I've written a simple CopyMorphs script. You can download it from the attached link.

No user interface provided or needed, so no Tkinter or Poser 6 dialogs. It should work on ProPack, P5 (tested) and P6(tested), both PC and Mac.

Usage:

  1. Select either an arbitrary body part of the figure the clothes conform to, or an arbitrary body part of one of the conforming clothes.
  2. Run the script
  3. Done

This is not the complex SpawnCharacter script I'm writing. It will also NOT create morph targets in the clothes. It will only set identically named morphs in the clothing to the same values as they are in the target figure.

The script is provided in a ZIP file.

Hope this helps,

Steven.

Thanks-- I'll try it out.

BTW, I love all the stuff I've found of yours in Renserosity free stuff.  I'm a big fan.  Just one more thing to like about your work, Steven.

Thanks again.

twajjo ( ) posted Wed, 31 May 2006 at 12:42 AM

SVDL/Steve,

Tried the script out today with the Hongyu Lingerie and it worked great.  It looks like you adjust all clothing on the currently selected figure.  I had to do a VERY slight amoutn of tweaking, but that's what I'd expect if Figure->Conform To... worked as it does in my dreams (if only everything worked as it does in my dreams...).

Thanks again, and I'll try to push the limits of the script to see what else it can do.

Later,

Jeff (twajjo).

Last night I happened to be reorganizing my python pallette, and ran into a script just like SVDLs; same name too, but I think it does all of the parts at once.
