Subject: hair color not rendering-help.

delfloria ( ) posted Sat, 27 May 2006 at 1:16 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 1:33 PM

When applying library strand hair to figures with no modifications all of it renders as solid black regardless of the color chosen. Is there a setting that I need to activate to get the right color? I'm new to 6 so I am completely baffled. Thanks for your help.

Just asking again in case I missed someone who could help me. Also what setting do I use to export image files with an alpha channel. Thanks

Can you post a screenshot of your render settings?

Images exported to TIFF format have an alpha channel.  I think PSDs do, too, although I don't use them for export.

Karen, I don't think I can post a screencapture on the settings. Meanwhile are there some basic settings I should test? Like I said, I have not modified any of the settings from what would be the original defaults, which is why I'm so confused about this.Everything but the hair is turning out great. Morgano, Thanks for your info regarding the Tiffs. I'll try them next time.

Just hit the print screen key, paste into your graphics program, save and upload to your forum post.

Are you sure you've changed the color for the right material?
Materials named "Default" often does simply nothing.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 29 May 2006 at 4:41 PM

Hmmm. Which model and hair are you using?
You said "regardless of the color chosen". How are you choosing the colour? Do you mean it's the same no matter which hair prop you load, or are you changing the colour via the material room or the paint bucket or something?
Also can you please post one of your renders?

i had a similar hair colour problem, which was fixed in SR 2. Have you applied the service packs?

delfloria ( ) posted Tue, 30 May 2006 at 1:16 AM

I am putting up the hi res Jessie and giving her the jessie strand red hair straight from the library. I have not changed any settings or applied anything using the paint bucket. When I render her the hair renders solid black, no high lights or shine. I tried the blonde hair from the menu and the same thing happens as well. It's like the render engine doesn't recognize the hair. SR 2 ??????

Service Release 2 is here. Could you post a render?

this is what it always looks like.

Are you using the default lights? If not, try with those just to see if it's alight problem. Also try upping the render settings a but, it's very close to Draft t the moment, that may have something to do with it as well (though I don't really think so)

And do install Service Pack 2 for Poser. That one fixes a lot of issues.

Hi delfloria,

Just to say I tried doing what you did, and got the above result (using the "default 2" lightset from the Lights Library)..

(All I did was load Jessie, load the "Red Strand Hair" and render. The "simple" Render settings were the same as yours..)

Cheers,

I tried again, using a custom lightset (my own version of the 360 degree lightset), nothing else changed..

... so it would appear that something is wrong with your set-up..or your lighting...

Cheers,
Diolma
