Subject: How can I Rotate a Material Map?

FuzzyVizion ( ) posted Mon, 29 May 2006 at 10:57 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 11:27 PM

I am trying to rotate my stone surface material 45 degrees, but there's no obvious way I see I can do it.  I can reposition the UV map, but I don't see where I can rotate it.

Try [Effects]-[Rotation]-Edit

If you use an image map, you can do this is the material editor, there are 2 litlle arrows on the bottom right of the texture preview, click on these arrows to rotate clockwise or anticlockwise.

Those little arrows only allow 90 degree steps, Effects Rotate allows steps between 0-360'

Thanks Hein, your advice taught me something important.  I was always wondering how to rotate maps in increments other than 90 degrees.

Hein,

Bruno, I really appreciate you taking time to respond.  Yes, I am well aware of the ability to rotate the image 90 degrees.

Hein, thank you for reading my question thoroughly.  And even more - thanks for giving me the answer!  Awesome!  How did you find this out?  I suppose it's in the manual and I just am too lazy or stupid to read it thoroughly enough to find this answer... sighhhhh.

To be honest it's been really a matter of trial and terror over a few years, opening a Vue manual usually results in a shower of loose pages so I've avoided that as much as possible :)

I've a tutorial I've finished for distribution on Cornucopia (hope to have it released there any day now), which discusses this exact issue. I've also included the mysterious rotation values for all rotation angles.

You can view a pre-release of it at the above link.

best, Chipp
