Subject: Final Fantasy Movie

Two questions: What software do you suppose was used to produce this movie - does anyone recognize it? What would be the best products to approach that level of quality on the Mac platform (obviously, on a much smaller scale) . We're trying to make a purchasing decision, if that helps at all. Thanks,

I don't have any connections at Square (producers of FF) but my guess would be that they use mostly Alias/Wavefront's Maya and Discreet's 3DS Max, with maybe some SoftImage and Houdini mixed in, and that they render with either RenderMan or Mental Ray. I doubt seriously that they use any one package exclusively, and I'll bet they have on-staff programmers that write proprietary code to add to the standard functions of these apps. All of these programs, as you might suspect, are not cheap, and are primarily designed for either SGI Workstations and to some extent, Windows machines. I beleive Maya is being ported to the Mac OS soon, if not already. --

Yeah, the skin textures look like Maya. I followed a lot of the articles and pix on it, and it's got a signature look. It's more realistic than anything out there I think. I'll just be happy to finish mine in Poser though, I don't have that kind of a budget! LOL

actually most of the stuff they are using is in house and they did use maya but its been in the works for 12 years so some stuff has been made and remade as the technology catches up alot of high end studios wiil take a program like maya and write scripts dor it or just take the best features and incrparate them into their own
