If you go to "My Options" in the gallery, you can set avatars not to display in the galleries :-)"you are terrifying

thank you :)
However, that's only a work around; a poor one.
I doubt many people know that is there.
I just think it would be better to not have a person's board avatar show up in their gallery comments because it looks tacky.
If anything, they should be turned off by default and if people want to see them, then they can go and turn them on.
It's not only board posters who come to view these galleries. People from all avenues of life, including professional companies looking for talented artsts. I consider the gallery not only a place for people to showcase their progress, but also as some people's portfolio's.
Going to someone's portofolio and seeing a bunch of avatars in the comments looks tacky and unprofessional. Yes, the person has the option of turning it off, but how many know that? I know I didn't.

Quote - i guess its a no-win situation then :p
and on a side note, If someone i was considering hiring linked me to renderosity instead of their website... i'd probably drop the idea then and there.
What I meant was that some people who are looking for 'new' artists comb various popular galleries looking for potential talent. It provides an initial contact for some.
I've seen some threads where artists have stated that they were contacted by a book author, or band, or publisher asking for permission to use a particular image from their gallery.
I just think that avatars jumping out at people when they come to the gallery is awful. The only image on that page should be the artists image, not everyone's avatars.

Quote - You can probably fix Adblock (if you use Firefox) so it filters out all avatars on certain pages. Adblock can be set up with wildcards.
M.
My point is being missed.
I think the whole concept of having avatars in the gallery comments is tacky overall from an esthetic point of view.
IMHO the only image that should be available on the page you are viewing someone's art is their image... not a bunch of board avatars that are on by default.
The gallery is the gallery. The discussion board is the discussion board. I fail to see why the person's board avatar is carried into the gallery comment section.

in regard to the avatars in the galleries, I am wondering if pranksters can add even more distractions, e.g. html code, javascript and image tags in the comment fields. as if a blinking, spinning, flashing avatar weren't bad enuff  banning avatars in the galleries may be along the lines of banning negative comments, low ratings or criticism. I recall at another site, some artists would complain if they got any rating other than 10/10, and would be constantly badgering the admins to remove low ratings and comments that were anything other than "wonderful" or "best image ever".

I'd rather not have my board avatar show in comments I made in the gallery.
My avatar is for the boards, and so far as I'm concerned the comment areas in the galleries shouldn't be cluttered up with board avatars that take away and distract from the showcased image you are viewing.
In addition to that, not everyone who views the galleries post on the boards or utilizes any other part of the site and I think having avatars next to people's comments looks really, really, really tacky.
