Subject: Gallery "What's New" - What is the purpose?

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 14 June 2006 at 9:40 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:57 PM

What is the purpose of arriving at the gallery to a "What's New" page,  and having to click "View Recent", and seeing all the same images you just saw all over again?

Why not just have us arrive at the "View Recent" like it used to be and we can see not only what's been uploaded recently (new), and carry on page by page to see all of the rest?

Seems redundant to me.

This is temporary until we figure out a new policy maybe on thumbs because that landing page was supposed to be a few of the most recent, most viewed, most commented and most ranked but we see what that looked like, LOL. So just for now we "hide" the other sections until we can discuss:)

Once again I agree with Acadia, it's redundant and speaking of the gallery what's with the mouseovers ......annoying!!!!!!

Well everyone wanted to see the number of views, comments, etc and this is the way they resolved this member request.....

Ok, thanks for that :)

And I agree about the mouseovers.   It is annoying, but I guess I'll get used to it.

I know majority rules but if this was the solution then I think I'd rather not know LOL....sorry :(

No problem. I am in total agreement about what the thumbnails with all the nudity looked like and really want to come up with a workable solution because I think the page that was originally there for todays most commented, viewed, etc was really cool but not with all the nudity. Even though the majority of members have their settings to view nudity I think having it on the thumbnail is just not the best thing.. Just my opinion

I'm with you on this one Stacey.  That first day of the new gallery opening, the nude thumbnails just seemed to jump off the page and attack my eyeballs!  I wonder why this is?  They didn't seem to be that prominent in the old galleries.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

You mean they couldn't figure out how to include the views, comment, etc. under the thumbnail like on the old gallery? Seems like a much better way to do it instead of that aweful popup.

The pop up repeats a lot of the information that's under the thumbnail anyway. Additons are the stats and the actually upload date rather than age of the image, so it IS a big pop up for a lot of repeated information.   I guess not putting the info under the thumbnail is down to space?   But when you give people the choice of the number of thumbnails to display on one page, that's kind of a moot point.

"Well everyone wanted to see the number of views, comments, etc and this is the way they resolved this member request....."   -  Well yeah, but pop ups probably not the way forward, but a good temporary work around.

Once they put an profile option "show mouse overs in galleries"  and "show stats under thumbnails"  then everyone will be happier.

I'm sure the first few weeks are going to see quite a fluidity in the gallery features as problems and issues are discussed and resolved.    So I don't think we can be too harsh about a  little weirdness to start with.

LMAO

I had to laugh at this statement because it's sooooo true!

I think part of the reason was that nudes tend to get the most views, so because there was a section called "most viewed", the nudes were featured front and centre,  LOL

Ah yes, that's probably it.  They had the "Most Viewed" as the default gallery page didn't they?  LOL

Yes  there were sections for todays most viewed, todays most commented and todays top ranked along with the "whats new" so there were a lot of the nudity thumbnails showing up in the most viewed and top ranked:(
