Subject: Winding River

Calling you V5I experts out there!

I want to make a winding river scene and I can't see how to do it, any ideas?

I think it might be something to do with using a double texture or something, not sure. Any help appreciated.

Thanx!!

Is this more a material question or a terrain one? If you want to have it easy, you can simply create two terrains for each side of the river one. By creating a grayscale in a paint program as starting point - for good parallel borders of the river you simply flip the image horizontally (for example). Then you use the ground as water plane and construct so your winding river. If you want to do it really in one piece it is a little more tricky. Again, create the grayscale in a paint programm, with the river simply black or darker gray as the rest of the image - this will give you a valley then. Then you must create a rather complex mixed material - basic idea is to make it altitude dependant. For the lowest parts the water you want to have, for the rest other materials that maybe as well need to be mixed - dependant what you want to achieve.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

@wabe: Thanx for the answers, at the moment I'm doing it by placing terrains over a water plane in a way that gives me the effect of a winding river, I though there may have been a quicker and easier way, but apparently not!!!

Thanx!!

Much appreciated!!

Or you can simply dig a river in the terrain editor with the brush tool. But this takes away a lot of the terrain detail in the process.
