I was away for a few days and came back to the new galleries. Like most of the changes done here over the years, I am not to fond of the new gallery interface. It is chunky and I find it anoying. But then like most of the changes here over the years, once I got used to them, I found that I liked them.....
Part of my displeasure is that I just loaded Vista, the new Operating system by MS and trying to get use to it as well as the new gallery changes was a bit much to handle at one time....
yuh I kinda have to agree with you all.... it took me like 20 minutes just to find my own gallery :( Oh well, they say a change is as good as a holiday (funnily enough they never mention where the holiday is huh?...... anyone remember that song by the Dead Kennedys "holiday in Cambodia????") Heh heh

Hey guys,
Once the homepages and community side have been converted over to the new php platform, everything will hang together as it once did, so for example you'll have quick access to your homepage, favourites, etc, from one place like you used to.
I know at the moment it's like following a trail of breadcrumbs and it's frustrating and annoying for everyone. But if we had tried to convert the entire site to php all at once... well, it just wouldn't have happened, the databases are too huge and at least this way we've been able to work the bugs out of one part before moving on to another - and yes, pre-release testing does happen but until you've got a full live environment you are never going to know what will happen...
I've been informed that the homepages are planned for conversion this week so fingers crossed it won't be too long before things are in one place again instead of chasing across the whole site looking for your gallery!

Quote - Just in case anyone is listening and for what it is worth, I really do not like have other artist's images plastered all over my personal gallery page, even if they are my favorite artists. I also do not like all of the recent views of the images I have looked at plastered all over my personal gallery.
Completely agree with this.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
I think its a waste of server power etc etc to show ME what i've seen already .. it does not make sence....
And i dont get why they change the ALL & ALL in gallery options..why change the name's.

I really agree with Lululee's post:
" I think it is a very creepy feeling to have every statistic about us posted and plastered all over our gallery images. This is like some weird kind of "big brother" situation going on. It does not please me in the least and I am sure there are going to be a lot of people who feel this is a real invasion of their privacy."
i like the stats!!!! they are cool!!!!!!! i think all that info(individual image stats)was there before!! i like the stats at the bottom of the gallery too!!! for spooky you should look at a post by williamsn!!! his signpost thingy tells you who you are, where you're from, you're ISP provider, what version of windows you're using, and what colour toilet-roll you have!!!
I agree with Lululee. I think George W. has taken over RR and the CIA are reporting every picture we look at, or at least it gives me that feeling. I really hate that I have over 500 images in my gallery and it says I only have 4. Also, what about this TOS complaint forum??? Oh, boy! It's Nazi Germany and I get to tell on my neighbors - God help us!!
Hahaha... drifterlee, the penny just dropped. I thought you meant the parrot was a nazi... talk about confused! LOL

Well when someone presses the button, it sends what they say, and a link to the pic, to a "queue" which the staff then view. We don't automatically delete the image just on someone's complaint (otherwise the parrot would be an ex-parrot, LOL!) We still post it in our staff forum for review just like our normal "gallery patrol" process.
We're hoping that it will provide a quicker process to dealing with blatant TOS violations as it can be picked up by whoever is online instead of an IM sent to a staff member who may not log on for hours. (And god do we get some blatant ones... real webcam low-rent porno stuff sometimes )
We have had some frivolous complaints so far but not too many; we've just politely explained that yes, nudity IS allowed and where to find the filter button ;-)

Gongyla's Statistics
from my galery's page:
"Gongyla has uploaded 0 images since joining on Dec 13, 2004
Gongyla's images have been viewed 665 times at an average of 0 views per image.
The image with the most views is "baby, I'm determined and I'd rather see you dead" with 402 views.
Gongyla has 7 comments for an average of 0 comments per image.
etc etc..."
In other words:
-I have uploaded no images, yet there's one that has been seen 402 times.
-Then again: the images I haven't uploaded have been seen 665 times, but no image has been seen.
-7 people have commented on images I haven't uploaded and yet the average per image is zero comments.
-I don't want stats. I want an option to turn them off.
-I don't want my recent views made public.
-I don't want thumbnails of my favourite images in my favourites page.

Error: Please enter your city.
Error: Please enter your state.
Error: Please enter your Zip™ Code.
Error: Please enter your country.
Error: Please enter a referral source.
Please go back, correct the errors, and try again."
You have no bloody business asking my city (state we don't even have) zip code or referral source or whatever.
That's odd, I was told the address fields had been marked as non compulsory.
I'll check with the programmer.
Edited to add:
Your recent views aren't public.
I have asked about giving an option for showing thumbnails of your faves.

You are a very good mod, and I mean that! I can well imagine it must not be easy for you to be between both groups (users/buyers/vendors and site-developers/owners) so your commitment is much appreciated.
Unfortunately I agree with many here that many "enhancements" are not really steps forward. Of course this is my own, personal opinion.
I love breaking habits, so it's not because it's new that it's bad, and if developers/owners don't react, people will get used to it. No, there are several things that don't make the R. experience more fun or easier. Perhaps it's not all finished yet, but then why not test excalibut in the backroom whilst keeping camelot for the big public? Why is the homepage still on camelot and why does someone's profile here on the forum lead to a page with stats, but without a link to this person's homepage, gallery?
Personally my strongest dislike is against those personal data they want you to enter. Who knows what they would do with that in those stats (and don't tell me they won't use it as it's not a choice but an imposed "thou shalt").
etc etc...
if my recent views aren't public, than that's one step in the right direction. If now the homepage link would not lead to the public wishlist (I think I'll delete all items), if the profile link per thread here would lead to some info on that person and with a link to her/his gallery) R would be heading in the right direction.
whatever: when I write "you" it's R. I'm adressing, except when it's clear that it's not general but personal.
It would be a difficult decision to have to go somewhere else, but the pile with arguements to do so increases.
Hey, you all are welcome.
I really like the layout of the new gallery but yes, there are some real annoyances there right now.
The links between homepage, gallery, forums, etc will come back and make sense again once the whole site has been converted over to php. Right now we still have bits on both servers, and it's hard to make them interface.
They decided to do a bit-by-bit conversion for a variety of reaons. Firstly to try to avoid throwing too many new things at the members all at once! Also because it then gives the opportunity to fix bugs in one part before moving on to others. Because no matter how much testing is done in a closed environment before rollout, there will always be things that aren't discovered until they're in a live environment and we have 2000 members trying to break it :o)
Sooo... once the homepages are converted, things will seem to make a lot more sense with where they are on the site. I know it's like following a trail of breadcrumbs at the moment, it's driving me nuts. The homepages were originally scheduled to be converted this week, but as they're putting in this fix for the hated resize "feature" (hooray!) I believe it's been pushed back to next week.
I'll let you know as soon as I hear something bout the address details.

the strange thing is they called it GALLERIE make over....
But the Home page's frontpage's comunitie page's etc etc where all done at the same time..
if they only mention that in the first place ther whould not be so much confiusion...
And the front page note that there HERE was a bit to soon...
Such a promotion makes people thing its ready but it was not half ready...
a statement saying : the galleries are being rebuild so expect difficulty's, does not look good on the front page but it sure make people be more forgiving.
And all the other part that have being rebuild where "never" mentiont ..
Just be more honnest to the members and you get 99% more optimistic feedback .
This site whould not have being if it was not for its members...
And i must say ..i take my hat off for stacey and karen... they have the most complaining to deal with, and they do a veddy veddy good job ...oink oink... :}
Not that other mods dont have to answer Questions but ...i think a lot less then these to lady's
SO here goes the HAT ...... damn stupid wind ... euh if you see a HAT flying some where please return it to me... just bring it around at my hous in the netherlands :}

Thank you Chris, we're trying to keep up with all the questions, and don't worry, the whole team is with it... I'm just the quickest typist ;-)
I take your point about the timing of the announcements and I will pass that on to bear in mind for future changes!
Good luck to your team tonight... only 15 minutes to kick off!

OK got a reply back on the info fields from Admin:
All of the fields marked "required" on the profile page are the same ones that were marked "required" on the old site. Nothing about that has changed. The only two fields we were requiring on this side at first that were different were the street address and phone number which are now not required as I fixed those last week:)
So if you don't want to put this information in, just put "X" or "N/A" I guess.

I've been away for a week and came back to the nightmare of the new galleries. Is there a way to browse "Poser All" or do we have to specify each section of Poser.
