Subject: Public Apology to All of My Favorite Artists

Lyne ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2006 at 4:39 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 7:37 PM

Because of the changeover of the renderosity Gallery and my inability to visit my favorite artists notification e-mails before the changeover, I cannot get to the direct links to your latest images because the links no longer work!  : (

I will slowly be trying to catch up with all of my favorite artists, now that I found a script to cut and paste so that the gallery is visible in a form that is comfortable for my eyes. I do not like the gallery changes but I'm doing my best to stay a part of the community.  It was quite a process to upload my own new image today, with all of the things one must do before the process will allow you to upload.  :(

The new instant message system here does not work very well with my speech to text software/headset anymore so it is very difficult for me to negotiate around here.

Well Lyne, even worse - favourite artist post notification works only now and then for me - i got ONE notification so far but have seen that some more of my favourite artists have posted. And i am not sure where the pms here show up still - definitely not in this forum. Can someone give me an answer to this please?

The notifications of new private messages should show on the forum pages.

You can also view your messages by clicking on the 'site mail' link at the top of the page,
then 'view inbox'.

wabe ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2006 at 9:26 AM

Ok Agiel, i did a test. Nope it did not show up in the forum here - or maybe somewhere where i definitely do not expect it. Where should the notification be? I only found it when i went to Site Mail/inbox. Not good. Btw, information about new threads here come through as well only now and then. I guess it does not have to be like that but i would really like to hear some words about all this from Renderosity - when it will be back to normal. Btw, i see myself and others already looking for alternatives to this site here. And don't think this is planned from Renderosity to make their users (and buyers) walk away. So they should do something against it - and if it is only some words about the situation!

Friend wabe,

There have been numerous pleas, scattered all over the forums from Stacey mainly, asking for the patience of the members as the change-over is somewhat more trying than all thought it was going to be....Renderosity is definatly NOT trying to drive away members and or customers...they[the admin] are going to superhuman lengths to make this a smoother moving and faster community for us all...but it does require PATIENCE  on all our parts...hang in there friend.....

Bobby - YOU have friends? Nah, JOKE!!! No problem normally with issues in transitions. But this goes now for just a little long. Like the thread notifications. Sometimes it works, mostly it does not. And that since weeks, not only days. Or the yellow star issue. But i think the ones who thought that the anger will go away after a while were right in a way. With all the other problems this is not really an issue anymore. Site mail! In all transfered pages pm notification isn't working as well since weeks. So i feel like that someone is testing on my behalf - without telling me. Or do you see any information about problems in this forum? I don't. And this forum plus the Vue gallery is all i go to really at Renderosity. Btw, newest example is that my so far link to the forum here since today is not working anymore. I get a 404 page instead a warning that there is a new link. Is that really user friendly? But no real hard feeling, The world will go on wether i stay here or not, wether i buy here or not. And maybe soon all will be as it should be and we all will be happy. To end with something positive. I like the new gallery atribute that scales all images to the size of my browser window. Times of scrolling around on huge posters are over. For this i am really thankful.

Well Friend wabe....The way I look at it...none of us are actually paying them to be here for us so I guess we will have to endure a little'testing on us' till they get the bugs ironed out....I could see making complaints if I was actually paying Renderosity to host my galleries et al, bus as it's provided as a FREE SERVICE, well unless you want to upload more than 1 pic a day, the most I can see me doing is noting things that are screwy and helpfully posting non critical heads ups about the anomalies I find.

Indeed I also like the new galleries tho at first I didn't like the look, it's the art I wanna see, so the 'house' the art is in is only of secondary or tertiary importance to me...

If you want to know what's going on really, do as I do and scan all the galleries[ Community Center etc.] for helpful and knowledgeable replies from williamsn...he, along with others is handling the changeover, and is more than forthcoming with help and info on how to deal with all the anomalies that have been popping up...

So I guess I'm saying...it would be best if we could all chill a bit and not worry cuz this site is as important to the admin. [if not more so] as it is to us and they DO want it to be the best on the net.....

:-))) I wanted to read the story about the new site mail - and clicked onto the link provided in the appropriate thread in the Community center. What did i get? This: ##################### Not Found The requested URL /index.ez was not found on this server. Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS) Server at www.renderosity.com Port 80 ##################### Btw, i do not completely agree about the free issues. I think there is a lot of money turned around through the Marketplace. And galleries and forums of course have to support this. I accept and understand that and thought so far that Renderosity is doing really well on that. Maybe someone should remember that again.

Well yeah, but as I understand it[ I'm not a merchant yet] R'osity hosts your store, maintains, etc the content, so that all the merchant has to do is upload the item...that sounds pretty sweet and kinda free to me...the customers are really the only one's paying anything[allowing for the pay per upload issue in galleries]really and I really haven't heard much from customers...have you?...They tend to be a patient breed[customers] and I know if a store is selling something I want, and is closed for any number of reasons...I WILL come back later when they're open....

I think the best way galleries and forums can support this is WITH PATIENCE...tho I know that's getting to be an old rag of advice, it still is the most sane...you really could make yourself[and the staff] nuts by freaking on every new bug...I know I was for a bit there...but I'm an old hippie with a built in CHILL SWITCH, it's like a KILL SWITCH on my mower which turns off the machine when I LET GO of the handle...LOL...just my 2 cents Canadian

" all the merchant has to do is upload the item...that sounds pretty sweet and kinda free to me." When i have it in mind correctly i only say 50%. 50% of the prices in the Marketplace stay at Renderosity. You see, not only sweetness and friendlyness that drives all that here. Quite a business all this is - and i think not a really small one. I can be wrong about the percentage but i don't think much.

Well Bobby, looking at how much the amount of posts have dropped here over the last few months, I think Renderosity have done that without trying then.
Although I applaud them for trying to update the functions of the site, the whole thing looks a mess, often seems slow and has functionality that doesn't work.

I want to visit a community that is a pleasure to visit, not a chore...

Those of us who shop in the Renderosity store do pay for the site, Bobby. Our money is what keeps the site going. Renderosity is in business to make a profit; nothing wrong with that as long as it's honest profit, but profit nonetheless. Some of us also pay for "extras" such as the file locker (which I believe isn't working correctly since the changes started, although it may be fixed now) and/or the 3-pix per day. So while the site may be free for some folks, other folks who shop here and pay Renderosity for other things keep it that way. Don't ever think that Renderosity/Bondware is in it for the sake of being nice folks.

I tend to be very patient when it comes to stuff like this, maybe more so than a lot of other people, but Lyne's point in particular I find rather telling -- that site usability has gone downhill for those who may have various physical challenges. That means you're putting obstacles in the way of people who are trying to use the site and the store. Not a very good idea, imvho.

I do think a lot of this stuff will be ironed out eventually, but with Bondware's vast experience of many years in this type of environment (forum hosting/coding/etc), I'm rather surprised at the amount of problems folks are running into.

Well...While all the previous posts have merit, I do believe that the overwhelming majority of members here are here more for the community, and as there has been no huge response, well alot of folks pointing out bugs, patiently, I'm assuming that the majority are waiting, as am I, for this rather complex business so get sorted out...Really, unless you want to go somewhere else and start from scratch, it only makes sense to 'ride it out'..

If I seem a tad impatient with y'all, well I am primarily a guitar player and I cut a major finger 25 days ago and can't play so I have been spending too much time reading...sigh..sorry if I've unintentionally stepped on toes, but I see this as a Great Art Community first, a fine place to learn things , make new art friends, and lastly as a commerce site, tho I acknowledge thgat it does take commerce to keep it running. This is why I keep empathizing patience as the best route to happiness in this situation.....I really don't think they are TRYING to drive folks away...do you?

Do try and have a good day y'all

Well I went away for a few days and then I came back and found a script that someone else wrote to fix the gallery so that I could view it.  I tried uploading a new picture and found it much more complicated than before.  I know that Stacy is very angry at me because I keep saying that it should not be up to the users to fix a web site.  I'm sorry but the old renderosity even had a place to go to click to set the forum colors etc. now I get the party line saying were trying to please the majority.

I came back to the community forum that I tried to calmly articulate my confusion, frustrations, and questions that I still have.  Stacey simply said please go read the FAQ.  I did, and it did not tell me anything that I did not already know and it did not answer questions that I still have. It must be a horrible position to be in that Stacy has, and I suppose I should feel sympathetic toward her.  I hope they pay her enough!

While I said I would be trying to catch up with my gallery viewing I'm beginning to feel that I just may not come back.  I see an option when I go to my gallery that seems to be a one-button option for getting rid of my entire gallery.  I wonder if that works?

PlanIt3D has a fantastic easy to use gallery uploading system.  It is the site where I hosed all my freebies.  I think perhaps I may move over there permanently.

I came here are originally for this sense of community-mainly the community from the comments posted underneath each other's gallery images.  I still can't get any answer about how or if they will ever increase the size of the font because I can't read the tiny font!  And no one will tell me if the section called my favorites is public or just for myself.  Why would I post a comment about each favorite artist if there's no one there to read it?  And while I'm making comments here the other thing I can't get an answer to is why I can't even see what I'm posting as I post it here in this box.  I get a horizontal scrollbar and until I clicked the vertical one I can't see the last line, and then when I tried to read read and edit my own post I have to keep scrolling back and forth with the horizontal scrollbar.  I asked politely if the programmers would be working on that issue, and again Stacy just referred me to the FAQ which says nothing about these kinds of questions.  I'm pretty fed up.

I have decided I am leaving this site for now, perhaps for good.

I can't stand the stress anymore of trying to deal with the changes here, the colors and the fonts I can't read etc. For the foreseeable future I will be using the galleries at the web site that hosts all my freebies:

Sorry to see you go Lyne...but I understand your frustration.
I certainly have lost the community feeling here...not because of the members, but because it's more like trying to find your way through tiny, one way roads and dead ends, just to get to an emptying club.

Even getting to the forums from the frontpage takes longer now...why the hell did they get rid of the drop down menu in the links column on the side? They surely want more people to go via the frontpage, but then take away a feature that just forces people to make bookmarks straight to their favourite forums!!

Anyway...sorry to see you go Lyne.

Cheers

Well we'll see how it goes.  I won't be here very often for a while, but one of the moderators from the poser forum actually wrote me an e-mail and address some of the issues I have and asked me for some screen captures and my stylesheet to see if she could help me.  I know they still have a lot of converting to do-more than they are really admitting I think (since discovering that the home pages are on the still different server!)  So I think it's going to take weeks!  I wonder if very many people will be less then?

I'm just not very motivated to do uploading or deal with a forum in any way.  Thanks for the understanding, I appreciate it!

Jeesh jsut trying to finf "My Gallery" is a nightmare, have to load "Old Fornt Page" to do it.

Someone needs a rocket for the mess, lol.

@silverblade33.....Know what you mean...I as well, miss that ever so handy menu but find that clicking on Galleries and THEN on my gallery seems to do the trick in 2 clicks stead of 1 , but with the new conversion, seems to get me to the gallery faster than the old 1 click method...just what I've noticed

just my 2...      styling or site look does not matter for me, I don't care. If it works...
As long as I was in my office, with a 512 dsl connexion, I got no real problem with the new Rendero, just annoying dysfunctions, which had me regret the old forums.

Now I am back on a worksite, connected to the internet via a handy phone connection (gprs or gsm, depending of the local cell's capability).
The old forums worked well and fast, with this kind of uplink.
I only loaded the texts, and just an image here or there, when the text incited me to.
Lightweight pages.

Now, with the new thing, everything on rendero takes much more time to download via handy, can't  load several pages simultaneously,  get time-outs, or partly loaded pages only. And the pages without images seem to have  more kilos than before (gprs/gsm connexion pays per megabyte, over here).
So I regret the good ol' rendro times... :-(

Attached Link: MY GALLERY

I must be doing something wrong.  While the new stuff is definately different, it didn't take me very long to get used to it.  I can read everything just fine and I actually really LOVE some of the new gallery stats that I get when visiting my gallery.  It all comes down to one word.  **CHANGE**.  Humans **HATE** change.  It's a fact of life.  I have not uploaded a new image yet since the changes, so we'll see how that goes when I do, but otherwise, I think things are fine.

Just my two cents,

PS - I LOVE this new ability to modify the text in my posts!!!)

The site seems to load faster but the menus and their links need work.

I can SEE the print in the gallery now...I uploaded a fractal I made in artmatic pro...and can read the comments already! :)  I am sharing my white font on black background css with another friend who needs larger font... ! Karen is taking a look at my forum css now too... hmmm what will happen when all the servers merge? (with a different css on each?!)...hmmm

After My original post, I do see now that I'm not getting all of my Favorite Artist Notifications.  Actually I've probably missed a lot of them.  I think others are experiencing the same thing, but what I would like to know is whether or not it's an acknowledged problem that's being worked on or if I should ask someone for some help.

Any Ideas?

Dragontale - there is an ongoing discussion about this and other problems people have in the community forum. Maybe you go there and learn what other problems you might have :D And that is exactly what we complain about. Not the new style really, the problems that we all have in the transition phase is why people start to become a little angry.
