Hi,

I've had some success rendering interiors:

I used GI without a ceiling. If you need to use Radiosity, then this page might help. Also, Jim Coe has some nice tutorials on rendering interiors as well.

best,

Chipp

Thanks Chipp!
Yep i have one tutorial on interior Radiosity, in a closed room, with a combo of an interior point source light and an exterior 'sun' through a large window (small skylight too). The room model is available for download in Vue .vob format. The tutorial was done in Vue 5 Infinite.

Radiosity is kind of finicky and long on render times. I think Chipp's idea of removing the ceiling would make it both easier and of higher quality.

Hey, thanks monkeydesign! I have fun with it.

You don't actually need to remove the ceiling. Just make it not cast shadows!

I thing I really miss from Bryce is parallel lights, which are like spotlights except they originate from a plane, not a point. These can be very useful for faking global illumination at a fraction of the rendering overhead.

ok this sounds good - so you can see the celing (quite important in this model) but it is kind of transparent (as far as light and shadows are concerned!) - am i right ?

thanks phantast!

You can also look at this classic tutorials on how to fake soft interior lighting in Vue.

It may help you achieve higher levels of realism.
