Subject: Hi! Can Bryce "Chop" like VUE???

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Thu, 22 June 2006 at 1:19 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:40 AM

Hey how ya doing forum!? Does anyone know if Bryce has the ability to chop/gouge out portions of the "Islands" like VUE does? Also i want to make flat top plateaus that stack, has anyone tried that trick yet? I did and it was very frustrating to say the least! LOL!!! Any Tuts out there on these two things?
ThanX as always!!!

There are a couple of tutorials that I remember that could be useful.  One is

  • you could make lattices, and turn the illustrated terrains upside down - another is 'how to make hoodoos', by Aldaron

Didn't you get the set of steak knives free when you ordered Bryce?

Oh! you mean chop in the program. Here's one way.

Press the "E" on your terrain to open the terrain editor.

The triangle on the top right of the center window gives a pull down menu. Click on solid and let go to make the mountain solid, otherwise  there will be just a hole in the shell if you chop anything out.

Click on the thing next to it to bring up a second window behind the center window. Click on the sliding bracket next to the bar on the right and drag down. This chops the top off the terrain. The image in the center turns yellow to show what parts you chop. Drag the bottom one up to chop the base. This gets highlighted in red to show what is removed.

OK I think we are missing a step cause the window is not going red as in other apps when i used the editor for fractals...I see your diagram and follow the instructions...but the top of the mountain is going black not yellow. Any idea why this is? I think I have a step missing

OK It isn't changing color at all and not chopping up my steak either! LOL! Let me know what might be the glitch...I am at a loss...I did everything in the instructions...so it is a mystery to me!

Moving those sliders should be visible in the greyscale display window.  What gets chopped off the bottom of terrain will be replaced with red,  off the top, yellow.   I looked at the image you linked.  Are you referring to the pedistal-like terrain and the undercropping (errosion)?  If yes, that was probably a bolean operation unless the terrain is an import from another program.

Yep, I kinda gathered that was what was Supposed to happen...but it isn't? I get no color change on top or bottom! Could I have goofed something up in the editing room from a previous experiment with fractals? I am always playing around trying to tweak this and that. Could that be why I get no red on the outside/bottom and no yellow on the top chop? Should I reload the program? It's Bryce 5 form Daz. Let me know cause i have tried several times and just can't get it to work. It also does NOT appear to be going solid, cause in the side widow it is still faint like not solid looking. Even after I click on the Solid feature in the triangle drop down. See these screen shots... Ariana

If you grab in the gray bar you just shift the position of the grayscale. You need to grab the ends of the bracket thingy.

}

to the right next to the gray bar.
