Subject: NETWORKING RENDERCOW HELP PLEASE!!!!

Hi

I have a computer that is hooked up to a VPN network at a remote location.  I also have a local in home network.  If I hook my vpn'd computer to my home network so I can take advantage of its 512mb of ram would it be detectable remotely?  Would they have access to all my computers?   Also is 256mb ram computer worth hooking up to a farm.....does it really help?

I just recently started using the networking rendercows in vue and I'm wondering if it is helping.  I have been running it over a wireless network...The Hypervue screen shows it going to that computer which has 512mb ram and a tile going to my main computer which is 2 gig ram....this happened both times Ive used g r in the render settings.....the 512mb cpu would get 1 tile processed to 24 percent .....the 2 gig ram computer would process all the other tiles and then get the one on the 512mb cpu and complete it???I thought maybe because I was rendering over a WIRELESS network that might be a problem?

May main concern right now though is can i use the vpn computer on my home network without it being noted remotely?

Thanks for any replies....sorry so wordy....

Peace and love

512 megs of ram is ueable in a rendercow system. More likely is that the remote system is a slow one, or else it is running some foreground processes (a rendercow is designed to run in the background, so if there is another app with priority, it takes what it can get). As long as you have a solid connection, wireless shouldn't have any effect on how fast a node renders.

I have a renderfarm with two Mac and two Windows boxes, one with 256MB Ram/Pentium III (and Windows 2000 on it). Works. Of course the 256MB machine is not really rendering the majority but it renders its part without moaning. Sometimes even more tiles than the cow on the host Mac, depending what is happening on that host at that time. So yes, my experience is - all helps. Btw, i even run Infinite on the old little Windows box and use this as host computer for rendering.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.
