Subject: Looking for video camera model (consumer or pro)

ptrope ( ) posted Sun, 25 June 2006 at 12:13 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 9:41 PM

That's about it, really - not a small handheld, but the larger jobs that use a VHS tape, or the pro jobs that use a 3/4" tape. I want to do some images that use a studio setting, with either tripod-mounted cameras or handheld shoulder cameras. Unfortunately, searching on "Poser camera" gets camera settings, more than Poser models.

Thanks!

You can probably find something through there.  Just type in the word camera or video and you should get some sites with free models.

Tried it with both "camera" and "video"; no luck so far with 250+hits. I'm really surprised by this - I would have thought that a video camera for Poser would be something of a no-brainer.

Thanks for the suggestion, Acadia. I guess if I don't find one, I'll have to make my own - and then post it in the freebies here! ;-)

Thanks, thefixer; I had found those, and dl'ed morph-e-us's camera 'in case,' but it's still a film camera, not a video camera, which is really what I'm looking for. The hunt continues (if only 3D Café's free models section weren't perennially hosed ...)

I didn't know 3D Cafe was having problems with their site. That's too bad.  Lots of great stuff there.

nekote has a small, hand-held camcorder.

The site may a bit difficult to navigate, so if you can't find the camera on your own, here's a direct link to the page in question:

Not really what you're asking for, I realise, but I like to be thorough.

Oh, and if you'll willing to part with some cash, Dendras sells a pro video camera over at Animotions for $10, along with other individually-priced equipment.  Or you can get the entire studio bundle on one of his CD collections.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

Thanks, mrsparky & Little_Dragon; I may have to end up using something like these. It depends upon how much ambition I get to model one; this is a Canon XL1s, which is really more along the lines of what I'm looking for. I found something similar, though a bit older, at Turbo Squid, but of course, everythign there costs 10x as much as any rational person would expect :-(.

EDIT: Hey, Little_Dragon, that camera by Dendras looks like just the thing! Thanks!

You're welcome.

No longer available for purchase, according to the product page.

Makes ya wonder why it's still in the store, then, huh? :-D

mrsparky ( ) posted Mon, 26 June 2006 at 7:21 PM

Still shows in my account page - sometimes when stuff vanishes from store it doesn't.

BTW - ptrop have you tried a real XLS yet ? A lot of reviews say it's nosy heavy and the high end JVC's are better but not having 2K to find out... :(

Nope, haven't done ANY kind of digital video - don't have a camcorder of any kind. I just like the look of the Canon, artistically, and thought it might also present a modeling challenge - if I had to model one, I prefer one that isn't just a big box with a cylinder for a lens, even though that's what a lot of the real ones really are ;-). Yeah , I'm crazy!

What the camera that That goes to the links that mrsparky and little dragon posted looks great

Not anymore No pro uses VHS. Small wedding companies start with SVHS or Hi8 to shoot with. Buig pro don't go near the old 3/4 inch anymore. Its now minDV, DVCPro, DVCam, DigitalBetacam and D2. I think the XL1 is Hi8. But it might be DV. I can't remeber.

Building the Gl shouldn't be too hard as its mostly a series of cylinders and a box as you say. Its the fine details that will make it come alive so to speak. LOL. This coming from one who can't build crap. in 3D
