Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
You're probably using a combination of Body and Hip to move and rotate the model. Any movement or rotation of the model using Body is ignored by Poser when you save the pose. But 'ah!', you'll say, 'if I move or rotate using the hip, the IK makes the model's legs go all squiffy'. Indeed .. you need to turn IK off when rotating or moving the model.
Those who specialise in making poses would usually recommend that you don't use IK at any stage, but use the dials instead (more control and you avoid accidental mesh-mashing). When saving poses, always have IK turned off. If it's on when you save a pose you practically double the size of the pose file. And if a pose saved with IK turned on is applied to a model which has IK turned off, you can get some very odd happenings.
hello.
thank you for your replay. Well i don't use the IK.. only Unlock it before posing an relock it befor im saving the pose.. but only the one for the legs. And i tryed to save the pose without turning the IK on again.. but then the flying got even worse... LOL and i only use the dals when posing. and the hip of cause... thats why its a mistery to me... nothing i do, seems to make a difference... they are flying... and i think the clue of this puzzel is the ring around the figure.. how to center it around the figure again.. because it seems to move away as i go along... i think if i can center it around the figure again i could make the figure stop flying.. BUT HOW??? cant find any information on that anywhere.

I think Moochie got it though: You're probably using both hip and bodytranslations. say you rotated the character using the hip and then used the body translate to get it to the floor (if it's a pose where the character is lying down for instance)
Well, only hip rotations are saved in a pose file, BODY translations of any kind are not.
So, when making poses, NEVER use the BODY dial for anyting, it woun't be saved anyway :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Ok .. a few more ideas. Do you use the 'drop to ground' command when posing, or did you use it on the version of V3 that you've got saved in your character (figure) folder? If memory serves, that command moves the Body. Is it V3 straight 'out of the box', or is it a model you've been using (perhaps experimenting with the Joint Parameters) and then saved? You mention 'Locking' and 'Unlocking' .. that prevents movement of selected body parts and doesn't turn IK on and off. Or perhaps you're using the 'break chain' command? Are you making poses with, and applying them to, the same model? The PS MilGirl figure, in particular, loads about 3 feet off the ground. Also .. you say the body circle flies into the air .. does it still surround the figure? If not, there may be some hidden article to which the character is parented .. have a look in the Hierarchy window, or the Body Parts and Props list. Ah .. just re-read your previous post .. the circle does detatch from the model. That suggests something hidden, or the joint parameters of the model have been altered.
If you've got some web space, you could post one of your troublesome poses .. I'll happilly look at it for you. At least that'll tell us if it's the pose or the model that is the problem.
Finally, you may need to re-install V3.
Ok .. I've been able to replicate the problem. Load your V3. Make sure IK is turned off for all body parts (Figure > use Inverse kinematics > remove ticks). Select Hip and change the Y Translation to 0.00. Then select Body (use the parts list at the bottom of the screen in P5) and change the Y Translation to 0.00. If you do it in that order, the body circle should centre itself on the model again. Save the model. Now create a pose or two and apply it to the model you just saved. All should now be well.
Oh, this is silly .. the ability to edit your last post times out after just a few minutes. I was going to add the following:
When I say 'problem', it's not actually a problem as such. There are two types of co-ordinates in Poser .. world co-ordinates and, for want of a better expression, 'local' co-ordinates. The Body moves in world space .. Y is always up, X is always side to side and Z is always forward and back. With body parts, they all move relative to each other. Turn your model upside down by Z rotating the Body, for example. +Y translation with Body selected will move the model upwards as you look at it. Do a +Y translation with the Hip selected, and the model will move downwards. That's because, as far as the model is concerned, 'local' movements apply only to the model and not to the world in which it is. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, the Body Circle simply relates to the Body. If you move the model by translating the Hip, you'll notice the circle stays put, but the model moves.

Hello all.
I'm having a problem making and saving poses in Poser 5. When i make a good pose and save it, it some how turnes into a "Peter Pan pose" it's flying all over the place. I already tryed to turn off Inverse kinematics, correct the pose and turn on IK again before saving the pose.. I also tryed to load a totally new V3 before making a pose and saving it.. Because the "ring" arround the figure seems to move down also.. and i can't get it up again. Only by loading a totally new figure. But it dosent seem to help on my problem either.. so now im lost.
I hope that there is someone that can help me.. Thank you.
wish all of you a great weekend.
