Subject: Dystopia

I think of buying the Dystopia by Moebus87. If you purchased this item which version did you purchase? The Poser version or the LightWave version. I considering buying the LightWave version, but I wondering how the rendering will look. I try the free version of Dystopia 01-20. The Poser version looked better when imported into Vue then the Lightwave version.

If you use Poser I figure you are better off with that, unless you also use LW, it's all about the texture paths....and how Vue will find them...not too good at importing as I only tried the demo but it does import a number of formats.

I own the entire Dystopia Lightwave collection and unfortunately It look very bad once imported in Vue, every texture/surface/materials is totally out of scale/values. Never tested the Poser version... I hope in a native Vue version

There will be a native Vue version within the next few months.  I'm not sure exactly when, but I'm working on a Vue 5 conversion of the first set of city blocks right now.  It will be sold through Cornucopia.

Here's a pic of the upcoming Vue version of City Blocks 021-030, used as an ecosystem.

...and here are blocks 001-010.  The plan at the moment is for blocks 001-020 to be included on the Vue 6 content CD, but we'll have to see if we meet the deadline and everything.

"Pleased"? — LOL!

You've got to be kidding... I'm tickled pink to see this version finally working in Vue!

A straightforward conversion from the native LWO format, or the Poser Version, to Vue isn't as simple as it sounds. For those of you that have tried it, you know exactly what I'm talking about. We have tried to make each version be as efficient as possible for the application intended, making maximum use of the features available without unduly stressing out a standard computer's system resource.

That being said, Ajax has accomplished a monumental task of overhauling existing versions, stripping them down and building them back up again... this time specifically for Vue.

Cheers! — Möe

P.S. — Technically speaking though only the LWO Only version is by Moebius87, the 3DS/OBJ Versions are by billy-home, while the Poser Edition and the upcoming versions in Vue are by Ajax. Just thought that I would clear that up before my hard working partners start to think that I'm a "publicity-hog".

I think most folks realize that man, following the development here in the forum, but mighty 'right' of you to state it publicly, making sure the glow goes 'round.....

Oh yes indeedy, moe. I do know exactly what you mean. Particularly when you toss animating the strobe lights on top of it. But it was worth it... :) What you've done so far looks excellent, Ajax! You've definitely improved the texture appearance over Poser-import-into-Vue. Good luck on making the deadline; more people need to know about Dystopia....

And Dale B...nice segue(seg-way phonetically)[sp?]{i hate spell check..LOL} from the "glow goes 'round....." in my post , to "animating the strobe lights " from yours...LOL

I was just now goofing around with "GeoControl" -- making a cityscape kind of terrain.  I imported to Vue as a tga height image, then built a procedural terrain based on it.  It's a quick & dirty creation (~15 minutes in Vue), and not intended at all to compete with "Dystopia!"  However it shows what you can do with terrain structures.

BTW, by increasing "noise" in "GeoControl" one can make massive city scapes -- good for distance skylines.

Warangel ( ) posted Thu, 20 July 2006 at 7:05 AM

For those of us who love and follow your work and have ALL the Dystopia cityblocks for Poser, is there any way of getting a discount on the VUE versions? Had I only know they would one day come out in VUE....

Regardless, looking forward to them.

I managed to bring mine into VUE easily, and retextured them completely. They are a wonderful set to use.

I find that if you save each cityblock as a VOB as opposed to leaving it as an imported object you get a LOT less memory issues or slow down of the application.
