Subject: SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS Listen up!

SusiQ ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 12:48 AM

There's very little that can compare to a weekend holiday in various parts of South Africa.

I think if this one works out well, I will have to speak to the game park near Kruger where my niece works and organise a weekend away to there photographing all the animals in their natural habitat.

That's a great idea Sue!  Good morning btw.  I think we will need a week in the Kruger though, not only a weekend.

Sorry 😊 lost my manners there for a minute....

Good morning Zeldie and all on the board.

Hey! Happy 4th of July to all our American friends!

Good morning to all!

Is it my imagination? Do we have intruders? When it's not that Swede, it's this lady (also half Swede!) burying her tractor under the snow! Strange, the moment I mentioned the mampoer, everybody wants to have a share in the fun.

Somebody please help me: Is the camera compulsory now?

Thank you Sue: Happy 4th July to the Americans friends - may God bless America!

Piet Vermeulen, South Africa

Zeldie ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 1:37 AM

LOL  The cam is compulsory Uncle Piet!  You can even leave the toothbrush and clean jocky at home :woot: , but the cam must be there!

urbanarmitage ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 2:20 AM

Goooood mooorniiiiiiiing aaaaallllll! [Ahem, cough, cough, splutter]

Hmm, oom Piet, it seems that the camera is compulsory but you may get away with some extra space to hide more mampoer if you leave the batteries, memory cards and chargers at home! ;o)

So people, how are you all doing today?

PS. Happy 4th of July to all our American members!

busi2ness ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 4:02 AM

Wayne you're a genius, never thought about that, and if Sue does not hurry with her 'things to bring' list you and I make up our own, ok?  Do you eat 'afval'? :sneaky:

I still doubt the camera being compulsory, but ok, I trust you, you are a great photographer 😄

Piet Vermeulen, South Africa

Zeldie ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 4:14 AM

No Oom Piet!  Not Sue's fault but mine.  I said I'll go check out my list at home last night and I totally forgot!  So all my fault, sorry!  I'll remember tonight and let you have the list tomorrow, deal?

And I don't eat afval!!!  Sies!!!

urbanarmitage ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 4:23 AM

LOL! Sounds good to me. Something along the lines of -

biltong, coke, mampoer, southern comfort, biltong, umm ... biltong, oh yes, more mampoer and southern comfort. What else is there really?!?

Yep, nothing wrong with afval! I'm of Scottish descent waay back somewhere so we can always take along some haggis for the folks to try!

Just to confirm, the following:-

The following people and their families are joining us for the weekend:

"Oom" Piet (busi2ness); Wayne (urbanarmitage); Tienie (loftie); Myself (Zeldie); Herman (Hermanv); Sue (SuziQ); PeeWee (Vera); Andrew (Spooky-Wan maybe) and Zigi (zigi *maybe).

Did I leave anyone out?

I'd like to ask that all payment confirmations be faxed through to Dragon's Peak and be brought under my attention so that we can keep up to date with everything.

The "list" will be available tomorrow.  I must just get my head together and remember tonight to check that we have everything on the list that we may need.

Sue, if you or Vera has anything to add, please feel free to do so!

Zeldie ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 4:54 AM

Oom Piet, that makes 18 heads.

Oom Piet - 2

Wayne - 2

Tienie - 1

Myself - 2 1/2 ;0)  My little one doesn't count for 1;

Hermanv - 1

Sue - 3

Vera - 2

Andrew - 1 (?2)

zigi - 2

Andrew doesn't know for sure yet whether he'll be joining us and zigi is out of the country for business right now.  He'll be back on the 17th of July, then I'll notify him of our plans and he can make up his mind whether he wants to join us.

Wayne, my Scottish friend, if I may add: "Whits fur ye'll no gin by ye!"

About the weekend: Is the idea that we upload photos as the weekend progress to keep the jealous world out there posted?

What about a good prize like a bottle mampoer for the best scenic shot? Am I getting too anxious now? I must admit I can't wait...

Do we know how many people have given up their names for serious booking at the resort? (sorry Zel, I see you have posted above!)

Piet Vermeulen, South Africa

SusiQ ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 5:17 AM

LoL. I can post what I have but I'd rather have it checked. (I left biltong off the list anyway...:o(  )

I'm also of scottish decent - My mom was born there.... I've eaten brains, heart, liver and tripe but not lungs.... And I'm from Rhods so we can add Mopane worms to that too....
Anyone for some fried flying ants????

Did anyone watch that Celebrity  Fear Factor last night? Yuch....

Sue, that's EXACTLY why I don't watch Fear Factor - because of that yakkas they make the people eat.  Gross man!

busi2ness ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 5:38 AM

Hereby I would like to thank the team having done all the hard work so far: myself, Wayne, Tienie - sorry if I left out any names here.

And then last but not least people like Vera, Sue and Zeldie :sneaky: Just kidding! Hugs to all 3 of the latter, you did a marvelous job! Things seem to fall into place now...

Fear Factor? Sounds like a preview to the planned  weekend?

Zeldie ( ) posted Tue, 04 July 2006 at 5:42 AM

LOL  Oom Piet, ja!  Once again I reserve the right to comment at a later stage on the Fear Factor thing giggle

Thanx for the thanx and the hug!  :0))  It's sommer a pleasure!  Sue, I'm working on that list but I'm having another braindead day at the office, so you'll have to give me the opportunity to go check out that list of mine tonight.  I don't want to leave something out cause man, trust me, if we leave something out and Wayne or Oom Piet has forgotten something important because of the two of us, we're not going to hear the end of it!  grin

Hey Sue, not stepping on any toes, go check this out though!  g  Now this is actually a list if you're planning a loooonnngggg camping trip.  I think it's excellently done though and if you use this one, you will FOR SURE not forget anything at home!

Oom Piet, you ONLY have to remember the Mampoer.  We'll remember the rest for you ;0)

Oh boy, am I relieved Stacy did not comment on all those silly comments posted by "some" people in here! :blushing:

Add me to the list of paid up weekenders, thank you!

Thanks for the list of things to bring, real handy:  mampoer, biltong and chocolate (😉 at Sue & Zel), BUT I noticed way too many superfluous items on there: clothing, food, and believe it or not, the CAMERA crops up again as a necessity! I wish somebody would now make up his mind...

busi2ness ( ) posted Wed, 05 July 2006 at 7:24 AM

Peatreek: Sorry, you had me puzzled on this one. You stretched my English vocabulary and I consulted a dictionary:
Peat: a highly organic material found in marshy or damp regions
reek: to smell strongly and unpleasantly.
Does this have ANYTHING to do with me after drinking the mampoer?

@Sue & Zel: It seems you have decided the "great divide" will be between male and female? It's ok by me!
Call up for Tienie, Wayne, others?, come on guys, I was thinking along the lines of taking the ladies for a mud bath, Jodie suggested adding honey to the mix (if not mistaken) which would have resulted in "mild" battle fun, but the ladies are playing dirty now adding guns... Any other dirty suggestion?

We may need that Peatreek too as antiseptic!

Hmm, sorry I disappeared guys! Some of my new toys arrived (computer server equipment) and I had to take delivery.

Oom Piet, what say we break out the secret weapons? I have a chest hidden at the bottom of my garden full of stuff like ice cubes, creepy-crawlies, false doggie-do, etc. I'm sure we can come up with SOMETHING to keep them at bay!

Hang on here....!! I did not say HONEY. I distinctly remember it was Maple Syrup! LOL!! My point was that if I was to be invited (as the novelty swede) to this party that we'd have to party until the maple syrup flow filled the bucket. But, seeing as you have NO maple trees (just like I cannot find the north star in SA) the party would go on forever. However, I am sure if I was to sample this mampoer/southern comfort mixture that I would eventually suggest a hunt for said maple tree in the mud. Only thing that would stop me would be that arsenal displayed above! Thanks for the laughs! Jodie

I kid-proofed my house but they STILL get in!!

Zacko ( ) posted Wed, 05 July 2006 at 2:02 PM

You guys sure have been busy here. The next time i´m going abroad for a vacation, i´m hiring the lot of you to plan my trip....wherever destination it might be to. 😄

@ Andreas: Thanks buddy, we will plan your trip anytime, as long as we may tag along!

Playing the Swede-card or the Sweet-card? Yes, exactly my opinion too, and that after she has made mischievous suggestions about honey/syrup and you-know-what and which stars we may or may not see! Now that she realizes that we will put up some resistance and we are ready to dip these pale skinned snow-bleached Minnesotans in the mud baths, she seems to back pedal, bla-bla-bla explanations, arrgh! :sneaky:

Will you two be coming as a team?
