Subject: Attention all Marketplace vendors!

Hey, you guys (lady-type guys, too) who do such a brilliant job of creating new models for Vicky and Posette and place them for sale in The Marketplace: can I make a suggestion? Whenever you post a new model for sale in The Marketplace could you please try to remember to do the following: 1) clearly indicate if this is a face/body model or just a texture (only). Sometimes it is not really clear. You texture-only folks give them a name like "Mary Sue" even if it's "only" a texture, but sometimes fail to indicate that the face is generic Vicky or one from some other artist or even from one of your model faces offered separately. 2) show the face in closeup bald full front and bald side profile AND 3/4 portrait WITH HAIR. Sometimes you really can't tell how attractive a model will look unless it's got hair. And be sure to specify exactly which hair you used if it is not included with the model -- and also clearly indicate if the hair does come with the model. 3)we need new faces more than we need new textures. I've seen (and purchased) some really beautiful faces, but have an appetite for more. There's lots of beautiful people for you talented folk to model: Brad Pitt, Meg Ryan, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfieffer (sorry, I'm too lazy to look up the spelling) and many many more. You guys are really fine artists, I know several of you can do this and give (sell) us a whole Hollywood of beautiful Poser people. (I, on the other hand, am NOT an artist. I like to think of myself as a director: "Hey, there, beautiful Poser Person, go stand over there by the car (or dragon or throne or ...) and pose for the camera.") And, hey, thanks for the great stuff, youse guys!! bitplayer

Oops, I didn't mean to forget about you folks who do faces for Mike or Dork. Same as above. And thanks! bit

Good comments. It will help if it is applied. Sometimes the lights are so dark that we can hardly see the details.

I certainly agree with your first point. I don't mind people giving their products names, but for products that are textures, morphs or both for existing characters it would be nice to know upfront what I'm getting and what character its for. Some products aren't even clear as to which base character they are for. I also see a lot of "clothes packs" that turn out to just be textures for clothing you already have to own. It would be nice to have this information right on the tumbnail. "Eugene: textures for Mike" or "Nightlife Fasions (morphs/textures for Vicki's Clothing Pack 1 by DAZ)" is all that is really needed.

I think this is just plain good marketing for the merchants, because if I'm shopping for morphs for Mike, you should advertise that your products has that.

If you're selling a texture or just posting it in Freestuff, please don't apply a morph to it in the thumbnail unless it comes with the zipfile. Truth in advertising and all that. I know I've put 2 thumbnails of my character morphs with textures, but I try not to make the tex outweigh the effect of the morph...

Please also specify what your advertising images are rendered in. It's very frustrating to buy a Poser product only to realize that to get that product to look like the ad, I have to add hair from the Cosmopolitan Hair CD, render it in Bryce with third-party presets, and touch it up in Photoshop with third-party plug-ins.

good ideas! our graphics do have to follow specific guidelines and within specific dimensions, and lighting is a major factor. i can only speak for myself when i assure you that there is no postwork done on the items i sell, and if it's for poser, then it's rendered in poser - but i do believe that almost every merchant here is like that. i appreciate every sale i get, so i make every effort to please. i'll be double checking some of this stuff as it relates to my products (all of my clothes are original meshes though, so no other clothing packs are required). thanks for taking the time to let us all know how we can improve our stuff :) cheers! Styxx

Thanks for the suggestions, as a vendor I always appreciate hearing things like this. I do have a new set of face morphs that Im working on for Vicki and hopefully will have the finishing touches on them in the next couple days.

Thanks for the for the replies Styxx and Tammy. I do have to say that there are very many items that are thumbnailed and advertised honestly and very well. Speaking as a consumer, it only takes a few missleading thumbnails or not-so-straight-forward item descriptions to worry me just because, you know, hard-earned money at stake and all that.

The Marketplace is relatively still very young and many of the vendors are fairly new to this as well. I think that maybe some sort of image/description/advertising standards would be a good step for the growth of the store and merchants.

JKeller: I like your idea for standards. The Marketplace and its vendors are actually doing very well considering it is kind of a Turkish Bazaar, each doing their own thing. I have spent many buckolas there. I appreciate all the effort the Vendors take to make their offerings clear and concise. And I appreciate the job Renderosity has done in creating such a fine merchant account. Let's keep making it better and better and I'll keep opening a vein to finance my purchases! bit

I am new at the store stuff (just uploaded a texure of body and head for vicky: Noella) and first thing I do is upload a few pics in the gallery to let people see what they would be getting. On the close-up (specificly for those who want to buy and want to see upclose what the texture looks like) I used post work on the hair, it was rendered in poser 4 and then into photoshop for the hair . The details in the face ( veins above her lashes, mustage etc.) are how the texure is, no postwork. Also I have placed info such as what is and isn't included and used with the images that will be in the store. I agree that images should be with hair to give a better impression on how the texture is. Well, I guess I will notice soon enough if I have done this correctly. Please feel free to give feedback. Dalinise.
