Subject: Anyone know what's going on??

If you're sick of too many 'no ebots' threads, do move on, lol. I am unsure whether the problem is truly a Rendo problem, anyway.

Long story short, Stacey helped me change my email last night, and today I did a test post on one of my older gallery images. I got an email notification at the new email addy. So I thought it was a hotmail problem, (though I used to get all correspondences at that same addy since I joined).

Now here's the thing.

I changed my email back to the old hotmail addy. Guess what? I got a notification from admin at renderosity dot com at the old hotmail addy telling me to click the confirmation link. Cool. But I got no email when Iย  did another test post on an old gallery image. wtf?!?!

What it boils down to is that I can get email from certain addies at rendo, but not if it has "ebot" in it. Please, is there anything else I can do? Until recently, I got rendo bots, so I am clueless here.

Sounds to me like Hotmail is filtering out incoming from that address.ย  Does Hotmail have a spam folder like Yahoo does?ย  Are the notifications going there instead of your inbox?ย  Not being a Hotmail user I'm grasping at straws.ย  I use Gmail and have no problems so far.

thefixer ( ) posted Sun, 16 July 2006 at 1:38 PM

I get most e-bots now but some still end up in my spam filter even though I keep "telling" it that they're not spam [rofl].ย

Go figure!!!!!

yahoo doesn't filter out the ebots from this site AFAIK meaning I still get 'em sometimes, even though I unchecked notification

Hotmail does have a Spam folder, and just like the regular mail, you can see when there's a new, unread message in it.

And as for ebots, with the exception of the small period when no one was getting notifications, I haven't had a problem with anything from Renderosity showing up in my Inbox at my hotmail email, of course I've got Renderosity on the trusted list, so maybe that's why.

Thanks for all the responses. :) I added ebot at renderosity dot com to my safe list when hotmail started flagging the ebots as potentially dangerous. That started around the time of the gallery changes. Hotmail still let me choose to read it, though.

Then they changed something in the rendo mail system, and until about july 4th I continued to get bots, and hotmail stopped flagging it.

Nothing from here goes into the junk folder, and I did get the mail from admin at renderosity dot com. But now, nothing from the ebot addy shows up at all.

Do any of the admins know if other hotmail people are having this problem? Or what I can do?

Well, now, here we have it. Hotmail is screwed. If you type in hotmail.com and take note of the URL bar, you'll see the addy change, sometimes several times, as it goes through the hotmail servers. This is what popped up this time.

Does anyone want a gmail account? Hotmail will give you problems receiving email because its run by micro$oft. (and thats a fact).

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

ME ME ME!!!! PLEASE, I need it. Hotmail is screwed up the arse right now. I'm so pissed, I have important mail there and I can't access anything now. Can't get in to the bloody site!!!!

I gladly accept!!

Odd, I'm not having any problems getting to my hotmail (just checked it and saw an ebot for this thread). ๐Ÿ˜•

Gmail's nice, although I still use hotmail for most places, especially those that might cause spam. Although if hotmail's your only email and you can't get to it, an invite for gmail won't be of much use.

no that is not a fact... sigh
please leave the tired old proproganda at the door and lets move on with 2006 instead of 1999.

I'd recommend gmail to anyone wanting to avoid yahoo/hotmail and mountains of spam.

modus0 ( ) posted Sun, 16 July 2006 at 5:06 PM

Gmail is also compatible with Firefox for allowing text formatting, something which Hotmail won't unless you use the IE Tab plugin for Firefox.

It's really a better email option than Hotmail.

Are you using Windows Live Mail Beta? At any rate, I don't expect they have only 1 server for the millions of people that use it. Chances are the server through which your mail runs is ok. For now.

I got into hotmail, but I don't trust it. I have email addies through my websites, so it's no problem to get the invitation. :)

modus0 ( ) posted Sun, 16 July 2006 at 7:58 PM

No, I've already lost an email address because of that (it removed my question and answer, so I can't gat back in after having forgotten my password) and won't try another Microsoft Beta for some time.

You can message me with the Renderosity site mail with an address you can access, I've only got about 17 Gmail invitations left.๐Ÿ†’

Thanks, modus0, much obliged. Btw, there is Firefox formatting, drag & drop, and other new features I liked in Windows Live Mail. But I can't keep having problems like this (I even get "Report this to Microsoft!" errors quite often when I choose the smileys!) lol

modus0 ( ) posted Sun, 16 July 2006 at 8:59 PM

Well, it is a Beta...

For what it's worth, I found the perfect solution to the ebot problem (in my case, getting, like 6,000 ebots for every thread) - I removed that particular email address from Eudora, deleted it from my ISP account, and...voila! end of problem. Don't get any crud-filled MP spam either.
Of course, I don't get any email now from here, but then again...
Works for me.

I've used myway.com for a couple of years now (it's free) - it's been reliable and with pop peeper that can check for mail a number of different ways then I'm set up for all e-bots, and mail etc.

Yes, but this happened with my other hotmail account as well. And that is not the Beta version. As a matter of fact, I was locked out of both accounts for a bit yesterday afternoon.
